take this for what it's worth. it's a tip I got from a guy with some insight into the large company world.
their IP is all built on stuff other companies own. GE will sue for as soon as they turn a profit.
This was the advice from my nyc boss who worked at ge for years in the finance and operations all over the country and world. he's a pretty salty trader as well.

Does anyone agree with me now that TSLA is a speculative stock?
It has been that way for at least the last 6 months if you ask me.
Now Musk appears to be losing it from the stress. As his popularity disappears so will faith in Tesla.

I'd say my biggest concern in the short-term, meaning next year is TSLA actually hitting its projected gross margins on 25% on the model 3. I read all the reasons they are supposed to be hitting them this year but I just can't see them getting that sort of efficiency the first year of a mass car rollout in the volume magnitude of 6-10x their current year production.

Oh Elon is flirting with a fine line between blind optimism and straight fraud.

I saw this today and thought it was interesting: Reddit comment link. Obviously, not everything on the internet is true, but it's worth keeping in the back of the mind to see how TSLA's winter production goes.
quote:
I work for the company that supplied the structural adhesive dispensing equipment for the model 3 line. I was shocked how late in the game they were for ordering this stuff. They also cheaped out and didn't buy the temperature controlling equipment they needed for the adhesive. The Fremont pant is not heated. The adhesive they chose barely flows at lower temperatures. They're fricked this winter.
quote:
Winters in the San Francisco area can get pretty chilly. We were having trouble getting their material to flow at 60°F during testing. They switched to a cheaper adhesive for the model 3 line. They insisted on "electric blankets" for heating the drums of material, which is fine. However, they are pushing the material through 60' of hose which is not heated. Heated hoses we're an option, but they chose the cheaper ones. At full tilt, it would take the material about 20 minutes to get from the drum to the dispenser. This is where the temperature will drop, causing the material to become much more viscous. During testing we were close to over pressuring the pump at just 60°F, and Tesla thought it was okay... They ordered like 150 of these systems

I wish I was a little more investor savvy, I would love to short this.

Same.
This came up in conversation with someone who is in the position to short TSLA, with a lot of money. He did so a few months back, I think just before Q2 earnings report.
Not strictly based on our conversation, but he said after talking that he had his staff do some reviewing and decided to short it.
Would be interested to know how he did or what his positions are.

I know someone here can help us out. I am just nervous because I know its risky shorting stocks.

Especially with as much momentum as this stock has.

Maybe it's an appropriate time to bump this thread from about a year ago....

TSLA is definitely a speculative stock. Speculators like you might make a bundle on TSLA, and, if you do, CONGRATULATIONS! Or, you might lose it all.
I agree with Lou that you're really emotionally involved with TSLA. As an investor, that's dangerous.

I wonder how much of his uncle's money DBF lost on this one.

so is every long shareholder. That's why I have been bearish for several years, but never took an actionable trade because the obvious catalysts (missed production and margin targets, capital raises etc..) wouldn't break the momentum. They also don't care the company is operating at massive losses because they believe Elon is "changing the world." It's bizarre behavior from investors.

someone who said they kept in touch with him mentioned a week or two ago that he's now bearish on TSLA.
Now obviously investors change their opinion on a specific stock's value all the time, even if they like the company. But this would be quite the 360 based on his enthusiasm and long term view of the company in this thread

I'll say this here, and if Im wrong, I will seriously never come on TD again. Oil will never see $75 again. It wont, they're literally finding oil in every nook and cranny on earth, we're drowning in oil at this point frankly.Thats my ban bet, $75 oil and its adios bigfella.

Just set up an Options account, get approved for level 2 trading, and buy a put.
