I can’t do it. I spend an absurd amount of money on vehicles.
I used to buy a new truck every 5-6 years but I don't anymore. I guess I just don't care anymore, and they are too expensive. We bought the wife a new Accord a few weeks ago because we gave her 12 yr old one to our youngest kid. My truck is paid off. We have one $400 car note between the 3 of us.

I’ve just always been a car guy. If I ever build my shop behind my house I’ll buy a few more.

I've gotten cheaper as I've aged for some reason

I’m the same way.

I think you reflect back and realize all the stupid shite you spent money on as you were younger was such a waste. I don’t think I’ll ever own a new car or truck again at these prices, such a massive waste of money IMO.

Same. My wife got a new one but sedans haven't gotten stupid expensive like trucks have. She drives hers for 10+ years too.

I want to do something similar, but the car we’re still paying on is 0.9%. It’s financially better for me to keep that loan until it’s paid off

A lot of winning in this thread. Even Warren Buffet drives a used Buick.
If you’re a car guy or will actually get a lot of use out of your SUV/truck, then spending a fair amount on your vehicle starts to make sense.

Nicely done. The amount of wealth pissed away on vehicles by so many people is astounding.
Wife and I are both lawyers. We do well.
We were driving a 2008 and 2010 until this past year when a minivan was finally necessary. The 2008 will soon be replaced by sedan.
Keep the debt side of your balance sheet as low as possible and downturns become opportunities.

Over 225k combined gross and driving a 2007 Honda Accord pushing 300k miles and dropping oil but running great.
2015 Odyssey at 150k. Traded my F150 in for this when it became necessary. Rarely used it as a truck and the van can do 95% of what I used the truck (as a truck) for.
Will keep both until they just won’t any longer. I’m now considering just buying used from now on as well.

I drive a 2006 Highlander that was given to me by my father inlaw. It had 32,000 two years ago now it has 70,000.

Congratulations. I too drive a paid off Camry.

Love to hear it.

Bought a 2013 Avalon in 2016 and a 2016 Highlander in 2018. Both are now paid off and we have zero plans to do anything with either car besides maintenance. The Avalon could use some interior work as the leather's falling apart in some spots... But that's it. frick a note.
One of the worst financial decisions I ever made was buying a brand new 2014 Kia Forte. Went in with my eye on a 2010 and let the salesman swindle me into a brand new one for similar note but much longer term. That piece of shite lost 60% of its value in 4 years and the transmission and engine both died. Warranty replaced the engine. I couldnt get rid of that pile of trash fast enough.

I get your point but this is an oversimplification. Comfort matters to some and nicer, newer vehicle have more of those comforts. With that said, there are way too many luxury vehicles on the road for the number of people that can responsibly afford them. Simply put, there aren’t that many people who can safely afford $700 monthly notes yet that’s what a $40K loan looks like even at low interest rates for 5 years.
Good on the OP for being financially responsible with vehicles.

Wife and I haven’t had a car payment for 6 years. Both cars have right around 100k miles. Should be good for another 10-15 years

Everyone has a car payment. It just varies how you execute it.
