You have the perfect set up. Close to friends and family, both grandparents in same town, and house almost paid off. Why would you want to move your children away from their grandparents when you have no clear place to move to? The grass isn’t greener on the other side.
To the people recommending NC, North Carolina is not some utopia. I would never move anywhere near Charlotte. Asheville crime is awful and it’s crazy liberal.
My mother died this year. I live 10 hours from where she did and wish I had seen her so much more now. Your kid in high school definitely will think you are ruining their life unless they have an awful school situation. If you don’t have to move and have such a nice situation, why would you? I would seriously think about everything you are giving up moving. If you are unhappy in life, moving won’t fix that. Maybe focus more on investing in aspects of life that you find fulfilling like time with your kids or nicer family vacations but I’d figure out why you are WANTING to move.

To give my kids a better quality of life and not have them end up staying in Louisiana for us (break the cycle).
We pay ridiculous amounts in insurance and taxes with nothing to show for it.
I’ve been to other cities/towns and there is more to do, weather is nicer, etc.

I'm considering a similar move for my family in the next couple of years. I have younger children leading us to really value high quality public schools. We are seriously considering the Nashville suburbs in Williamson county.

NH full of Yankees = Nope for living

I’m sure glad this country wasn’t found nor settled by sheeple who based their families futures on good school districts…be a damn man and make a decision on where YOU and your WIFE want to grow old at, not where Braxton and Breonna can do synchronized swimming.

This country was literally founded and expanded by several groups of people who uprooted their families to resettle in places that offered greater opportunities.

My job may be going fully remote and I’m considering moving
first thing is determine whether you're cut out for fully remote if you've never done it before for extended period. I've been fully remote for 17 years and wouldn't even consider an office role again, but I know plenty who went remote during covid and absolutely hated it.

If you want to be close to home I think Tyler, Texas is better than Oxford

If you want to be within a half days drive there aren’t many places with significantly better weather besides northern Arkansas

Take a year of being remote and insted of moving, go travel often. The kids have multiple holidays during the school year that you can leave La and go see other places. Take the summer to really get out a good distance. You will do your kids more justice by showing them multiple places rather than just a new place, permanently. After a year of doing that you can all decide if you want to leave everything that you currently have at home.

You don’t have to go far: Two states over to the east… preferably in the Birmingham area.

I have no idea about any of your criteria, but I love visiting my father in law in Greenville, SC. Up and coming place (which probably has housing up), I assume the public schools are decent, and close proximity to outdoors, etc...
Worth a look.

Southwest Missouri.
That way you don’t have to say you’re from Arkansas.

Interesting, would have never considered Oxford an option. We want to be within a half day drive of our current home so this could work.
Do you currently live there, and have a rec swimmer?
Yes currently live here and have a rec swimmer. Swimming program is year round and we are associated with Tupelo shockwave aquatics. We are independent of Tupelo financially but we do plan swim meets with Tupelo. A couple times a year we rent a bus and team up with Tupelo for overnight meets for exposure. Last year we went to Auburn and I believe somewhere in South Alabama.
Two years ago we had the fastest female swimmer in MS and she is now doing the olympic trials. This year we have one of the top swimmers again on the boys side. Some of the top swimmers in the past have joined the XC team and strictly for the morning VO2 max workouts.
We currently have a indoor pool that we "rent" from Ole Miss. The problem with the swim program is that we could get kicked off campus at anytime if the kids don't behave. All the kids know the rules and we haven't had any major issues but it will always be hanging over the programs head because we don't own the pool.
We just lost one of the better swim coaches in the country. He was nominated for national swim coach of the year after winning both the state and south swim coach of the year. He moved onto the college ranks. He left the program in excellent shape and the current coach was his assistant for many years.
Baton Rouge is about 5-6 hour drive depending on how many times you stop. I am usually closer to 6 hours because I stop 1-2 times and get something to eat enroute back to Baton Rouge.

Have you considered Pensacola? Cheaper than destin, but still great beach/outdoor access without income tax and a short drive back to LA.
I came here to say the same thing. Only a 6 hour drive back to family in Louisiana. When the kids move out in a few years, that is where I want to end up

Pensacola/GulfBreeze or Orange Beach

A lot of people have said it already but wanted to echo it. You have described Northwest Arkansas perfectly. Bentonville has gotten pricey on the housing front but for a family in your life stage there are some great affordable areas all around. Centerton is basically all the benefits of Bentonville without the price per Sqft. Other “towns” I would explore that still fit in the big public school systems.
Cave Springs
Lowell
Bella Vista
Farmington/West Fayetteville
Those 4 will give you the best bang for your buck on space while still being within 30 minutes to all parts of NW Arkansas.

Wait till kids are older. You can’t move a high school kid. Very selfish!!
