I get the wanting to move completely but please don’t do this to your kid at this point. This happened to me the first day of high school (came home to have parents tell me dad got transferred clear across the country). Not to go mental or anything, but that had a HUGE negative affect on me that I probably didn’t recover from until my mid-20’s. I would heavily involve them in the process and get their take on it. Trust me.

And as someone else mentioned, WFH can end at any time.

I broke the cycle of my family living in the south, but I did it right before we had kids.

I'm in a small town in Central Texas and recommend it. Access to Austin, Waco, DFW in all sub 2 hours, Houston proper in 3. I can be back to my home town of Bunkie in 6 hours flat.

Decent cost of living. Good schools. Austin airport in less than an hour. Internet is not an issue. Outdoors are abundant. Don't know about kids swimming but I'm sure you can find it.

So by the time the first kid is ready to graduate, second kid is now in high school. Now you are stuck for 7 years and by that time, parents are older, and it doesn't look like you can move because your parents are going to need help soon.

Thats how the cycle starts. Move now.

Where too? Depends on your situation, but Houston, Gulf Coast of Mississippi, Northern Alabama and Florida are my top choices, followed by Carolinas and Tennessee.

Tennessee is pretty high on the list of good education, low taxes and low cost of living.

Is moving out of USA an option?

If so, you can eliminate most of the taxes you pay plus save money with a much lower cost of living.

If you are married, you are able to exclude over $200,000 of your income!

I've taken advantage of this for years and can't tell you how fast you can build crazy wealth when you can stop paying taxes.

Agree. You cant go wrong anywhere in that county. Great schools basically private schools but public. Best in the state. Housing has skyrocketed though.

For me, all of the above reasons would far outweigh whatever this means...

If my kids moved out of state evenfully, I'd consider retiring and moving to be near them. But my parents are gone and I couldn't imagine leaving while they were alive.

TN has some great geography, it's above the frost line (so they get all 4 seasons), property taxes aren't bad and there's no state income tax (in most cases). There are some good schools in TN, but many are going to be in more expensive areas (properties in TN overall have been increasing in value as it's become one of the big states people are moving to). Prices are starting to come down in some areas, but remaining sticky in others (which is likely the case in many of the more desirable states in the country).

You can possibly find something worthwhile outside of Chattanooga, Memphis (the Collierville/Farmington/Germantown area) or Knoxville (I would stay away from Nashville as it's been going through insane growth and that seems to be what you are wanting to get away from).

I think ringgold is pretty solid as far as schools and the town itself goes. I briefly “dated” a girl from there and she was the best girl ever. I fricked it up though.

She spoke very highly of the town and Chattanooga as a whole. I would imagine most of the other towns on the Georgia side are pretty similar.

I agree that central texas is a great area. I live in San Antonio. It’s great here too. The entire area west of Austin and north of San Antonio (really all the way up to southwest of Fort Worth) is just a great place to live, and quiet too. Getting more populated by the day though
