i used to get a kick out of co-workers celebrating a big refund never thinking about the govt keeping their money for a year interest free and they were allowed to vote!
Fairtax 2023!

Maybe, but It is also forced savings for those people. People getting massive refunds would not likely have saved that amount of given throughout the year. I get a kick out of people like Suze Orman and Dave Ramsey telling people they need savings, but fussing at them for having a big refund.
What do you think they do with the refund?
Put it in savings?

Child tax credit dropped from young kids $1,600 per kid so that's $3,200.
Plus child care credit dropepd as well.
Both dropped to their pre 2021 amounts.
2021 was a stupid crazy giveaway to parents.

Go on vacation, buy a big depreciating asset (grills, lawn mowers, ATVs, computers, furniture, RVs, etc.) or pay down CC debt. All things they would not be able to do by nickel and diming it away if they were given small amounts each week or every two weeks throughout the year.

Only one of those betters you financially and I don’t really think they’re using it for that most of the time.
People like Ramsey are trying to better you financially. So even if they are paying off credit card debt, it’s better if they do it throughout the year rather than waiting for the refund.
Such a weird thing to criticize them for. Forced savings does you no good if you blow it on a vacation or depreciating asset. You’re back to the same spot. And honestly if they use it on credit card debt, their refund is probably just eaten up by extra interest throughout the year.

Exactly! My house is not on fire, why am I paying for fire dept?

Yes let’s all stop having kids. See how that goes. I’m sure you’re not childless by choice though. Have fun with your sock tonight

Good, I shouldn't be burdened with the cost of your kids.
Isn't the government effectively raising his (and lots of our) taxes so that the money can be used for other people's kids?

We were worried about that too but we're basically getting back the same amount as last year with no changes.
