Federal Tax Return Issues

I've filed my taxes on my own using HR Block for the last several years and I've never had an issue until this year.
The IRS keeps rejecting my return because it says my children's SSNs are not correct.
I have quadruple checked their SSNs (which were pulled in automatically by HR Block due to prior returns by the way) and they are accurate.
Has anyone else experienced this? If so, is mailing the return the only way around it?

I'm wondering if someone submitted a return using their SSN's already.

If they are rejecting the electronic filing, then you will need to mail it in and then fight the dispute after. This way, you have at least submitted your return on time.
As the other poster pointed out, sounds like your kids SSN may have been used by someone else. You should look into getting a PIN for everyone in the family

How long of a dispute am I potentially looking at? I've been able to electronically file with no problems for the last decade.

Happened to me last year with one of my college aged kids. The kid had to get an IRS Pin Number before we could re-file. Someone had filed with their social. I don’t understand how they get away with that scam.

Probably a good while if you are waiting for them to contact you to get the ball rolling. I would go ahead and call to set up an appointment with an agent to have this looked into. That absolutely puts the dispute on record and assigns it to someone rather than having to wait for it to be assigned.
You can also make note of the time/date you called and the name of the person you spoke to when setting up the appointment as further CYA documentation.

yes. probably 15 years ago, but it was my own name and SSN they had incorrectly. I had to go into the SS administration office and present SSC, and birth certificate just to file my taxes.
ETA, this was 2008 or so. I'm sure it's more modernized now.

LINKTax payer Advocate
An IRS link that someone on this site mentioned a few years ago. They have an office in each state.
My brother and I were having a problem getting our deceased mothers income tax refunds for 2 previous years. WE called and left a message. It took 2 weeks for a callback but the lady was very efficient very professional. She got the ball rolling and we got 1 refund within 2 weeks and the other about a week later.

I would put very good money on the fact that some illegals got those Social Security numbers and have done all kinds of shite with them. Best thing to do is to go to Social Security administration and get new Social Security numbers issued and reportthose as stolen.
You can thank your local Democrat.
In the meantime, just file for an extension until October.

Do you have an ex-spouse who may have filed before you and claimed the kids for this year?

Is it saying the SSNs are not correct or is it saying they are in a previously filed return?
Two options:
Fine return on paper
File extension, get IP PIN, then efile
We have seen a rash of minor SSNs fraudulently used this year.

This happened to me 10 years ago.
I had to mail my return in because efile kept rejecting. Then got a letter saying I had a massive tax debt of 10k or something.
Looked into it and someone was filing under my SSN. Took me a year and change to clear it up and get my refunds.
I have a PIN now that they give me a new number for every year. I actually think everyone in America should just have a PIN. Seems like an easy additional layer of security
