That is way more coverage than you need in my opinion. We do 50/100.

one minor accident could wipe that clean. You may want to re think that Mississippi boy.

Why? If you have a minimum policy, they will collect your limits and move on 99.9% of the time.

You seriously think it works like this? Maybe in no fault states, but I'm guessing everywhere else you'd be wrong.

Really? Any idea about how much this usually runs?

It varies from year to year. I am one of the lucky few that don't get this benefit because where my car lives has banned this practice

My parents generally get a couple hundred dollars back

We switched to Geico last year, so far I am impressed, my wife was in an accident, quick and easy claim/repair process, accident forgiveness so premiums didn't go up. I have seen about a $2 increase in premiums over the past year.

I'm not losing everything I have over a car accident, the difference in cost is negligible

Get a 50/100/50 policy along with a 1,000,000 umbrella.

Whats the point of an umbrella with that low of auto limits. Wouldn't you still habe to cover a good bit by yourself before umbrella picks up?

USAA is by far the best. Great coverage, great prices, great service, and usually get about $200 at the end of the year.

Umbrella usually picks up where the underlying auto liability stops. The drawback of having low liability limits is you would get the reciprocal lower UM coverage. I have heard of an umbrella with a UM provision, but I'd imagine it is crazy expensive.

I was with State Farm for several years and when they went up on me one year I decided to get quotes from other companies. I found the came coverage for $200 less at Progressive. About every 3 or 4 years I start shopping around and seeing who can give me the best price for what I need. No brand loyalty anymore. I have seen how bad I was getting ripped off by staying loyal.

for 200 less a year you switch insurance?

If you own a home and get discounts don't forget that your homeowners will go up if you had auto insurance with them

State Farm offers dividends too, as does every mutual auto and home insurer (e.g. Liberty Mutual, USAA). They're usually not very big because they've been pretty accurate at matching rates and losses over the last 8 decades or so. I'd compare it to getting a tax refund, you never want it to be big, otherwise you'd be overpaying just to get a refund.

you need to max out your limits before getting an umbrella.

the answer to best insurance depends on a few factors, most importantly are what assets are you trying to protect. Also, i maxed out my UM limits. I'm worried a lot more about some uninsured retard hitting me, then myself doing something dumb.

Not so much, I just got a quote on a 1 million dollar umbrella for 350/year when I added UM to the umbrella it went up to 515/year, so less than 200 a year, I went with it

State Farm was always great to work with but the price I was paying was ridiculous. I switched to the company my independent home owner insurance agent uses and I saved $133 per month with the same policy
