I don't know if anyone else remembers this, but if you bought in 2008 it was a $7500 interest free loan paid back over 15 years.

But if you bought in 2009, it was $8000 tax credit instead

20 and put down 10% I believe. It was a Rural Development loan so it didn't make much sense to drop a bunch of cash on a down payment.

24, 3.5% down (FHA). still in the PMI (stuck for 5 years). bought a little more than we needed at time as a plan ahead for kids type place. also rates were crazy low (3.5%). can't wait to get out from under the PMI, sucks hard for FHA loans.

I don't know what you have heard about marriage but saving more is not what happens. Unless you are having a civil union, then maybe you will save more. But if you are marrying a female then saving more isn't what's about to happen

I will be purchasing my first home this year. Just turned 30. Work has not allowed me to be in one location. Finally going to be somewhere for 5-6 years. Single and no kids. I'm actually excited about it. I will not put down more than 20%.

My name wasn't on the deed, but my now wife and I bought a house together when i was 23. When I was 25, we got a house with both of our names on the deed. We put 5% down on both houses, but the 5% was much larger on the 2nd house. Next house in a couple of years will be our forever home and will have 20% down.

23 with 0 down. Used a VA loan. Then again, that was way back in the late 1970's. interest was around 10%.

26, put 10% down, had to pay pmi
Next house at 30, put down 10% and did a 80/10 loan, to avoid pmi.
Current house at 39, put down 35%.

25, put down 5% on an FHA loan @ 4.75%. PMI ran me about $110 per month. 2 years later property value shot up, so I refinanced @ 3.75% and was able to get the appraised value at a number where I had 25% equity so that the PMI would go away. Could sell now and walk away with $50K profit.

VA, so I brought $500 to closing.

20% would have been smarter, although I didn't pay PMI at the time. Owe more now than then.

Learning as I go, though.
