re: Y’all don’t want to hear this, but there’s a bigotry against Louisiana that fuels the hate

i always said that they want us to have some fricking dumb cartoon character as our HC for “culture” purposes
they don’t want us to have serious coaches and hate when we do

This is accurate. I was born and raised in Louisiana but I’ve lived north of the Mason-Dixon Line for 16 years and the yankees absolutely have a bias against Louisiana. Think we’re all like Bobby Boucher.
Not people from New York City, because it’s very diverse

I’ve lived in Memphis and currently live in Mississippi. The baptists think we’re heathen pieces of shite and that’s before we took their beloved coach.
It’s a cultural hatred rooted deeper than football

We all know Louisiana has its problems - but so many people outside of Louisiana have an inaccurate view of what life is like here. I lived in Utah for awhile and a woman I worked with really thought everyone in Louisiana commutes by boat/canoe every we go - like a swampy Venice. She watched the "Waterboy" like it was a documentary.

Being cajun french is just as bad or not worse in today's society as blacks in the 1950's
I have to just keep my head up and keep moving forward.

There is SOME truth to this. But a lot of it has to do with how does such a small state with such a small population make this much noise.
Both takes, spot on.
A lot of people across the country don't take time to realize or think or know.....it's LSU and the Saints.
There is nothing else sports team-wise in the State that matters.
LSU is a big deal. In NC...how many teams/schools are just in the Triangle and NC in general.

Sorry I don't get this after 19 years in Virginia and now the last 2 in Michigan, folks have nothing but great things to say about Louisiana and ask me tons of questions about it.

LSU behaves exactly like every other school and Yankees and Southerners from the “Baptist South” find every reason to hate LSU. It’s anti-Catholic and anti-Cajun bias related to old regional biases and bigotries. Assumptions of “Waterboy.”
I mean, some of these are general stereotypes, and Southerners (myself included) hold similar ones for people in the Northeast, PNW, etc. The anti-Catholic rhetoric could also be rooted in a scandalous past.

Uhh…is this an incorrect assumption?

It’s LSU against the world no matter what we do. Might as well ignore it.
No…might as well embrace it. frick the haters.

I agree with everything but ignoring it….
Embrace the Hate, and now let’s give all of those egotistical bastards a whole lot bigger reason to do so because they just can’t beat us!
GEAUX TIGERS!!!

Pat Forde referred to Jeff Landry as “Governor Hee Haw” in that mad article he wrote.
frick em all. I’m tired of playing by the rules. Give me the black hat. STTDB!

I don't agree with the anti-Catholic part. Catholics are everywhere, so why should that be a factor? I think you had the right idea with the other stuff. They mainly just think we're stupid. The movies always portray us the same way. It's like they think the "civil war" never ended here, and we all still talk the same way, and have slaves picking cotton in our back yards.

The anti-Catholic kart was in relation to the Baptist South. It’s also an old English-French rivalry. This goes back hundreds of years, Protestant-Catholic wars, English detesting Catholics, the English Civil War, etc. All that got brought into the U.S. and persisted with divisions in the South.

I'm a Protestant, myself, and while I disagree with Catholics on many things, it's not something that I consider a rivalry. I only think about Catholicism when someone chooses to have a theological debate with me. I don't think that stuff means what you're suggesting it means to people, any more. Catholics went to war over their beliefs just as much as it was Protestants the other way around. the pilgrims who came here were mostly puritans, which of course is a branch of Protestantism. but we're going way back. This, in my opinion, is all about elitism that most of this country has towards the south. They hate all of us. This particular grudge with LSU that seems to stand out more than the rest all goes back to Will Wade disrupting the blue blood mob, by out recruiting them, and then getting caught and being made an example of to protect that "mob".
That opened a can of worms, and then they already hated Mulkey because she doesn't play the PC game, and so it made it easy for them to single out Lane Kiffin and LSU when that situation arose. Their hatred just keeps building, and now this with Wade coming back. It's just been a steady build of jealousy and hate, and making fun of Landry by calling him "hee-haw" is just part of their built in elitism against southerners, in general.
