That was the type of article that not everyone can write. He weaves things together.
I get more sentimental as I get older and the end of the article definitely got me misty. It was nice change of pace on the perspective of all this shite (even though i enjoy the rowdy foolishness as much as anyone else).

The guy is kind of a fraud. He wears those dumb arse hats. Name drops restaurants all the time like he’s a ball knower, but they’re usually fairly mid (Abe’s BBQ, Ajax). Wrought with white guilt. Et cetera.

Loved the parts where he said the first town on 61 heading south out of Baton Rouge is St Francisville and not many people know that Vicksburg and Gettysburg were going on simultaneously.

Yeah, he leans a bit too heavy on cliches.
I still thought it was an interesting read and good perspective to bring, given that I was arguing with a dude here in the past week who was trying to assert we had more a history with Florida as a rival.

Over the past few decades, the Ole Miss-LSU rivalry has waned. I bet if you asked 100 LSU fans under the age of 45 who they would consider to be LSU's biggest rival the majority would say Alabama. The Ole Miss rivalry would be acknowledged, but moreso in terms of history telling them LSU fans are supposed to hate Ole Miss, not from an actual high degree of hate born from results on the field. That's because this really hasn't been much of a rivalry on the field. Since 1980 LSU leads the series 29-16-1
During that time LSU has won 3 National Championships and 5 SEC Championships. It's had 2 Heisman winners. Ole Miss has had, well, none of that. Literally zero. Hell, (excluding A&M) it was the only SEC West school to not even play in the SEC Championship game.
Great rivalries come from hate. They come from fear that your rival can match you. That, until just recently, hasn't been the case. Ole Miss fans have long cared a lot about the rivalry. LSU fans (at least those born in the 80's and beyond) haven't really cared much at all. There were better opponents to worry about.
So I'm glad to see the hate come back for both sides. That's what makes sports fun
