If that were true, he wouldn’t be continuing to recruit well at Florida.

Florida is certainly in the same ballpark as LSU in relation to recruiting brand name. So absolutely, yes he would.
If you take a look at the last decade Florida has put a very comparable number of DB’s into the NFL as LSU has and that was WHILE Raymond was here.
So he should be able to recruit equally as well, or close to it, at Florida.

you guys are hating on Raymond simply because he is longer a coach here. Raymond was still good in his last years at LSU.
He recruited and coached up flott (3rd round draft cheice), ward (drafted this year) and mcglothern who would have been hands down our best db this year and will get drafted. I believe ward and flott were 3 stars out of high school.

He wasn't slipping in his last years here and to compare him in any way to steeples is insane. I would bet that Raymond put more players in the nfl than any other LSU position coach in history.

Great recruiter (usually landed all the LA guys and 5 stars he went after), but mediocre coach at best.

Woah woah, I never hated on Raymond. I’d gladly take him back. I’m just trying to be optimistic about the future of recruiting, in that I believe LSU will be fine based on name brand.

In fact, I’m kind of giving Raymond credit for always having the DB’s playing with swagger and pride.

But I guess, take it how you want to.

I feel he was washed up when he left. But his replacement is probably even less effective.
So far, I haven't seen anything on the field that leads me to believe that either of the Defensive Backfield Coaches are LSU/SEC caliber.

We'll see what happens the rest of the season, but those two could be on the chopping block if the DB's don't step it up. (The MJ 2.0 WR Coach as well if they don't start holding on to the ball.)

He’s the best recruiter of DBs we lost. He’s an average coach.

Correct. Those around LSU during his time will tell you his knowledge of football left alot to be desired.

Raymond is crushing Steeples on the recruiting trail for this class.

is he? Depends on what service you look at

even if you look at On3 that had Mack rated higher than any other service,

LSU then has 3 Cbs ranked higher than the next guy in Florida’s class.

1 splashy Cb and then no one? where habe I seen that before?

oh right LSU 2018, 2019 and 2020 classes. then just no one good in 2021.

and that’s if you’re look at On3.

if you look at 247 Baites is the higher ranked CB.

Florida has 2 5* Cbs and 5 4* Cbs this cycle.

how many are going to florida?

There’s truly no point in trying to be objective and rational.

Raymond was a great recruiter in his early tenure at LSU. He also took a step back in his last few years, used other schools as leverage for pay raises and potential promotions annually, and played a part in putting a bad product on the field.

Both can and are true.

Giving Raymond credit for 3 star development over a 3-4 year period of time while also condemning steeples is nonsensical.

He was hired in December 21, meaning he missed out on all of the 22 recruiting cycle. 23 was his first true cycle and 24 is still unfinished. He may or may not be a good fit for LSU.

Doesn’t mean Raymond is/was some God. The situations the two stepped into at LSU are drastically different.

The 23 class had Toviano and then Harris and Jk Johnson were both top 5 cbs coming out of HS.

Steeples has never coached cb’s. Not a good thing when all we are getting are players in desperate need of coaching.
If he’s here for recruiting, who has he got that’s a difference maker?

They don’t list recruiters for transfers, but he was Wingo’s HS Coach.

If we're not going to run a lot of man he's basically wasted as a coach. I don't think BK/House want to run a lot of man.

This is ignoring any personality/fit issues that would be glaring.

This is at least part of the problem. BK and House want to run much more zone coverage. if we are being honest and objective, BK has never had the elite athletes like LSU use to having at DB and WR. Recruiting wise it is harder to get top cornerbacks when you play a ton of zone. they like press man to man.

It doesn’t matter who 247 assigned him too, he was a Coach O recruit. 247 doesn’t allow you to assign recruits to head coaches.
