I feel he was washed up when he left. But his replacement is probably even less effective.

We heard a lot about how Steeples was this young super elite up-and-comer who was going to crush recruiting. Hasn't happened. At this exact moment, Raymond would be an upgrade. Long term? I give Steeples another year and then start looking if we don't haul in some big fish in the secondary.

We need a few more cycles of recruiting. It’s a personnel/recruiting issue not a coaching issue.
We are 2 years removed from 2/3 of the roster leaving. It doesn’t come back over night.
We are lucky to be able to utilize the transfer portal or we would be royally screwed.

Raymond never was the mythical coach that many here claim he was.
He benefited by awesome talent that was here before he coached, and got some recruits based off that pre-existing history.
He underperformed as a coach who, was gifted with talent recruited with that history.
LSU has poorly responded to this opportunity to maintain its prestige and standing.

Nah. Give Steeples one more season. If corner is still a weakness, hire somebody new. Just not Raymond unless he's been fired and humbled.

Raymond has Wardell Mack committed and LSU’s staff doesn’t even see him as a corner so that’s Cooks miss, if we even miss on him.
Steeples has Cai Bates committed who is rated higher than any other corner Raymond has.
