Losing Coleman early was a huge blow to the pitching staff.

Nothing catastrophic but the team underachieved based on the talent they had. I don’t think he quite understood the grind of an sec schedule & how perfect you have to be every game. But I think he’s smart enough to understand that, now,

He also built up the roster for us to even have those expectations. And he managed some things very well in-game. I like jay Johnson. But this ended up being an adjustment year & it could have been more

This Coaching staff as a whole is a HUGE upgrade. Give this team Marceaux and nobody’s bitching about anything

shite. Give this team Labas and the season could've been much different. Marceaux for sure. I think losing Coleman was huge.

And if Vandy had Rocker and Leiter? Hell just give us McDonald and Nola. See how that works?

While the rant is not known for its intelligence, I’m amazed at how many people did not get this joke

I love the bottom line fans...most of whom don't even watch the games. They just bitch when we don't dominate like we did in the 1990s.

It's an entirely different landscape, but they don't realize it because they haven't kept up with the game.

It’s excuse making that’s why you see those silly scenarios posted. I’m not going to get into the nuts and bolts of the pitching discussion because no honest discussion about that is allowed on this board. Tiger Rant should change its name to Twitter Rant during baseball season.

Aside from the Ole Miss meltdown, I’d give him pretty high marks considering the pitching staff he inherited. The defensive mistakes are the most baffling part. The future looks bright, and they still have an opportunity to finish strong.

I disagree that he underachieved given the SP he was left with. He had Money as his Friday night guy for a majority of the season. People had major concerns about the SP and the bullpen.

LSU was predicted to finish 4th in the West via SEC coaches. They finished 3rd. Stats are improved. Both pitching and hitting. Team won more series and games overall. I am impressed by how he managed given the arms. I believe he has been successful and LSU will continue to trend in the right direction.

That was the biggest letdown. Not getting just 1 game there. I realize all teams can play this what if game, so I won't. However, I believe LSU had the 3rd most overall wins as far as SEC teams go. I did hear Johnson admit he didn't realize the grind of the SEC. I think he continues to improve and the future is bright.

Baloney! It is unrealistic to judge a rebuild by that standard. CPM had let the team talent slip to middle of the SEC level. In modern baseball, it is a two year rebuild to get back most of the way. This year would have required a lot of luck in recruiting to be a National Seed (like A&M had).

very successful. i was really worried about this pitching staff and the fact he was able to finish fourth in the conference is impressive without an ace. hell theres really not a number two starter to lsu standards either. Hilliard is a sunday starter most years and to ride that has been impressive.

His 2022 recruiting class is one of the best ever. It will depend on how many we can sign. This class has 11 top 100 players.

Nope. I'd still be bitching about the defense.

I'm genuinely trying to be fair to him.

Personally, I think the team is VASTLY overrated. They have 1 starting pitcher, that's it, and he wouldn't be a 1 on most other good teams. They have one of the worst LSU defenses/Fielding in the last 25+ years (I've looked it up, only 2007 was worse). They are a Boom or bust offense. They have a 'just fine' bullpen.
But acknowledging all this and thinking that they're a worse team then their SEC record and 4th place finish means believing they overachieved because of that record and finish. And if they did overachieve, would you not give Jay the credit for that?

SEC tournamanet was a failure and not seeing general improvement in fielding/defense and basic fundamentals like thompson throwing the ball to first base, etc. is concerning. Youd think Jay and staff would have a more visible impact there throughout the whole season.

Yes, if this were basketball we’d be the equivalent of a 5 or 6 seed. No way to call that a failure in year 1
