In the 51 years since LSU first made an NCAA tournament, LSU has only made 24 appearances.

So even if McMahon doesn't make the tournament until next year, he still hitting the program average.

JJ is the best- already has a title and young and primed for more

Kim- has a title but her salary is insane for a sport that loses 8 mil a year

MM is a wait and see

BK - won the west, then had worst defense staff in our history. He looks to have corrected but we pay him to deliver titles so that part is left open but it looks positive for now.

Scott is what he is, middle of road AD that pays some insane contracts

InB4 “he just throws money at coaches. He’s not that good” (never mind the fact that that is exactly what EVERY AD does)

So Mcmahon isn't a good coach until he gets to the tournament. Nice try. Good coaches improve their team over the season. He's done that. Good coaches beat teams with better talent. He's done that. Good coaches develop players. He's done that. Good coaches win on the road. He's done that. Good coaches motivate their players to give them 110% regardless of the game situation. He's done that. Good coaches stay positive and in the moment regardless of the idiots that call themselves fans. He's absolutely done that. yes, he's a good coach. Great coaches win championships. We shall see if he can get there but damn glad to have him here at LSU.

Woodward has been a great hire, but its crazy to actually believe that the Wade decision was his call to make.

Once the NCAA was involved, he had a ton of direction coming down from the President and BOS. Once the decision to fire Wade was made, he of course hired McMahon, but even in that hire his hands were likely tied somewhat by the candidates background/reputation. I.E. Even if they were interested, he wasn't going to get the ok on a Kevin Sampson or Bruce Pearl.

The entire notion that he only used the NCAA investigation to "fire Wade to bring in his boy McMahon" is laughable. And shocking that more than a few people on here actually believe it to this day.

I’m glad the next time we make the tournament, our coach won’t be targeted by the big bad NCAA & ruin our season again.

I thought McMahon was a good coach. My only question was if he was the right fit. Some coaches succeed one place and don’t in another. This doesn’t necessarily mean they are bad coaches.

Because this thread was never about Woodward. It’s about one win last night pointing to our unproven basketball coach all of a sudden being the next John Wooden. Don’t feign ignorance.

It's clearly aimed at the people who called Woodward a failure and a cuck because he fired Will Wade.

It’s pretty obvious I mean including Matt McMahon in the “great hire” category. Why is everyone here acting like that’s not what I meant?

You should qualify that then. I find these threads pointless but I still let myself be pulled in. I know you're not really a bad poster so I apologize if I was a bit harsh. It seemed clear to me that the OP was trying to bait the guys who were calling Woody a cuck and bad AD for firing Wade.

I'll get out of this thread now and try to stay out of it.

The Wade Brigade will never admit that. He fired their golden boy. He will forever be dirt to them.

That isnt true. I love Wade but I'll admit McMahon seems to finally have things coming together. If we didnt go down big in many games and have to crawl back, I think we would have actually had a fairly competetive team this season. This team isnt overly talented as well, so all things considered, that is imrpessive.

Y'know, this really was weird. And it wasn't just the NCAA, it was Dick Vitale and half the ESPN commentators, and a fair number of other coaches too.
We all jumped to Wade's defense because he was our coach and we were winning, but I've never seen that happen before. And it wasn't because "LSU isn't allowed to be good", we have been good before. I know Brown fought the NCAA and got nailed, but he railed at them for years... you can't call them gestapo bastards and expect not to get hit when you get busted.

Nobody came after Brady, and he made a Final Four. Nobody came after Trent Johnson for going 26-7 and winning the SEC his first year here. Nobody came after Johnny Jones when he had Mickey and Martin.

Wade came, and shite started really early, and from damn near every direction. So whatever he was doing, it was pretty obvious to almost everyone in the business.

It’s not necessarily beating Kentucky. It’s watching the team and program grow. They’re learning to win and gaining confidence and swag. McMahon definitely has the program moving in the right direction.

That’s why some people became so attached to Wade, but if somehow he could have stayed at LSU - It would have been like that every year we had a good team. Investigations, allegations, suspensions, etc.
They had a vendetta against him & I’m glad it’s not our problem anymore
