re: Will LSU-Bama stay as a yearly game when UT and OU join?

Ugh. To hell with TAMU. I want Florida every year.
I don't think that will happen, I heard Chris Doering allude that he is hearing on the Florida end that LSU/Florida will likely end. Florida will get UGA and TENN likely along with UK I think.

Why do you think LSU will automatically get Texas A&M
Because of the way the SEC has manufactured that rivalry in the last 8 years or so, starting with making us play them on Thanksgiving Day.

UK would make sense. I guessed South Carolina as Florida's third opponent, but I think UK is a better option for balance.

LSU's top 2 permanent games will be Ole Miss and Texas A&M
God, but why 8&4? I like our rivalries with ole piss, UForfeit, and Bama.

I hope so too. Would be a shame to not have two legendary coaches like Kelly and saban meeting annually
We won’t get many more

What do you guys think?
Doubtful. Auburn & Tennessee are bigger rivalries than LSU. I don’t think there is any way the schedule makers will make LSU a yearly opponent of Bama either now that we have a competent HC.

Doubtful.
Will be separate whether we go east/west or pods.

I think it’s a safe bet that Bama will keep Tennessee and Auburn as permanent opponents. I doubt very seriously that Bama will want to keep a program at the level of LSU as their third permanent opponent.

We MIGHT get Florida, but we will NOT get Bama or Auburn.
My prediction is LSU gets Ole Miss, Arkansas, and Texas A&M. I KNOW we will get OMiss and the Aggies.

I really just don't think ESPN is going to want to lose that annual game (if they have any say in it).
Call me naive, but I don’t think ESPN will get a say in it. I certainly don’t think they should get a say in it. Adding OU and Texas makes the SEC deal considerably more valuable, especially if we go to 9 games.
When they bid on the contract they were getting 56 regular season conference games. Now it’ll be 72 games. On top of that, their Big 12 deal is split with Fox so every Big 12 game they lose for those teams is theoretically 2 SEC games moving forward (without getting into the LHN mess anyhow).
I’ll admit I don’t know how exactly the process works once the format changes - meaning I’m not sure whether there is a negotiation for the additional games or it automatically falls under the existing deal. But either way ESPN shouldn’t have a say in the format. If they have to renegotiate, they’ll get a chance to price the new format in if they think it hurts value. If not, they’re getting 16 more SEC games for free.

I think it’s easy to forget that whatever happens, you’ll be playing non-permanent opponents every other year now (or twice in four years anyhow, depending how they set it up).
It’s not going to be like it is now where we play UGA and then don’t see them again in the regular season for what feels like 20 years. To me, that offsets a lot of the concern about permanent opponents.

I'm disappointed that we will likely lose either Florida or Bama because of this retarded pairing with atm.
Also I read the entire thread and outside of the USC and atm mentions there was no discussion of the basement dwellers. Each pod is getting saddled with one or a team that spends a lot of time down there.
Unfortunately, that sounds like atm is our pod bottom.

I read somewhere back when Texas and OK were first announced that they are considering 4 team geographic pods. You play the 3 teams in your pod every year, 1 repeat opponent from the other 3 pods every year, and the remaining 2 games cycle out every year, where 1 pod plays everyone on another pod on a rotating basis like the NFL does with games against other divisions for an 8 game conference schedule.
The most logical pod structure would be:
1. Texas, Texas A&M, Oklahoma, Missouri
2. LSU, Arkansas, Ole Miss, Miss St.
3. Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Georgia'
4. South carolina, Tennessee, Kentucky, Vandy.
In the story I read, the makeup of the pods was very much in flux, so it could break in any direction. However, in this setup, LSU could get Bama as their annual opponent from pod 3, which would mean LSU would no longer play Florida every year.
No, i don't have a link...I read this a year ago. And, this doesn't work if they go to 9 conference games, unless everyone gets a random opponent for the 9th game.
The short answer...yes, LSU could still play Bama every year after TX and OK are added, but not necessarily.

I would much rather play AU or UF every year instead of A&M. I don’t care if it makes the schedule more difficult it also makes the season more fun to play them. I’m never that excited about playing A&M it’s just fun to beat them and laugh at them because they are pitiful. I look forward to the Auburn, UF, Bama, and Ole Miss games more than any other every year.

LSU and Alabama will always play. When both teams are good it’s must see TV and the networks make lots of money.

Why do we have to make all these changes? It's pretty fun and profitable as it is.

NO WAY would 3rd pod ever fly. Alabama will be with Auburn and Tennessee and that will pretty much be non-negotiable.
More like:
3. Bama, Auburn, Tenn, Vandy
4. Georgia, Florida, Kentucky, SC
And pending for the Texas schools really feel, Arky could be swapped with A&M.
