Actually it was held yesterday.

And Hawthorne said on the radio in the post-game that LSU would most likely the late game on Friday like they always do.

He really said that. That didn't help.

So it's really basically just a tradition now. Or what LSU's always done.

it should be a holiday in BR every time LSU gets to host... kind of like opening day in Cincinnati

I love the SELU posts. It's like a funny little brother version of ULL. Is there really a large fan base from SELU? My brother and father both graduated from there and I've never heard a word about their teams.

Mainieri said he likes knowing precisely when his game starts. He doesn't want to wait around for weather or for another game to finish. Sees it as an advantage. Said that in interviews last year.

The 7 pm game on Friday always starts at 7. So that's kind of a dumb excuse.

LSU does it because it's an LSU tradition. It wouldn't look bad if Mainieri said that.

Unless bad weather pushes it. Which is why he wants the first game.

No, they had a decent turn out to a few of their football games this year because they were actually decent for an FCS team, but baseball doesn't draw much a crowd. That's why I'm finding this guys posts to funny though. It's obvious trolling, but it's cleverly done, and the fact that some people are actually falling for it is great.

Unless the first game goes to extras or something. The first game starts at 3. It's not that unlikely that it could go long for some reason and push back the start game.

I can definitely see how it's an advantage to play the 3 o'clock game for day 1. It's more likely to start on time... guaranteed to finish early enough that you guys get a full night's rest... I wish we played the late game, but it doesn't bother me much, and it is the smart thing to do baseball wise. Considering how much flack Mainieri gets for his baseball decisions, this is one you really can't argue with.

Has nothing to do with "tradition". Mainieri said he doesn't want his players having to wait around all day to play while others are already playing. In the past he's also made the weather argument. There isn't a "tradition" angle here and Mainieri wouldn't look bad regardless of which time he chose.

Because you're 8. Of 8.

And according to Ben McDonald, SLU has some wicked pitching...

It's a boring first game. SLU might get run-ruled...

LSU has a choice and Coach Bertman made a great decision to play the earlier game because of the possible chance of rain delays, and if LSU lost would then have to play at 1 or 2 0'clock. Coach Mainieri is doing the same.
