This year sucked. We all know it. The complaints are warranted and we all know this is below LSU standards and expectations. This season is over. We will not win the SEC and we will not be going to a regional. It is ok to be pissed and bummed out. If we weren’t fans we wouldn’t be.

But here is my thought on Jay. He is the best damn Coach in the country and I’m glad he is ours.

He missed on the portal. By the time that was apparent, it was too late to change it. The roster is/was what it was. But what happened after that. He owned it. He called himself out and he called out the team. He made the lineup changes he could. Remember, the roster was what it was at that point. But the changes he was able to make did make improvements. Offense definitely picked up. Infield defense definitely improved. Even it it never got really good, it improved. All the things that could be positively impacted with half a season left were. The pitching sucked because the pitchers just didn’t posses the ability to get better. Yes it was on Jay for missing on the recruiting but again he owned that. There is some good youth on this team to build around for next year and Jay was able to show that despite the losses.
Nothing was going to get us to Omaha this year once this roster was set but Jay pushed the buttons where he could with the younger players. I’ll give the man with 2 rings and proven track record the benefit of doubt that he is going to crush the offseason and get us back to the top of the SEC and country next season. I do hope he chill with all the shifts though.

You have no reason not to trust Jay Johnson. He screwed up this year and owned it. The guy has won 2 titles in 2 different ways. He’s the best post season coach out there and he will fix the roster. Nobody hates this more than him so it’ll get fixed.

Because he won 2 titles in 4 years. /thread.
You idiots wanna go hire someone else and hope that person can win 3 championships in 4 years? What are y’all smoking.

If it happens again next year then maybe we can start to worry.

If he gets the best players we will be fine and win it all. If not we could be the worst in the entire SEC

Coaching, developing, who cares. Your bag man and transfer evaluation is all that matters now

77-72 in the SEC doesn’t make him the best coach in the country. Don’t know if he can turn it around. Hope so. We will see

The schedule of when the portal opened combined with how fat boy Scotty did no favors to Jay and his ability to get into the portal.

Jay does have 2 of the last 3 championships and did recruit and find the back bones of those teams that won it. He clearly is still searching for how to stack big season after big season.

Hopefully with Verge fixing the distributions that fat Scott messed up, we can be focused and move forward.

The hype this team had coming into this season is making this thing a lot worse. Jay can’t really control hype but he did say this staff was deep and well they are the worst staff in 40 years so that’s a bit concerning.

The question is do you move off Yeski knowing his peak is a cws dominant pitching staff that takes teams souls but his low is this disgraceful shite we watched all year. It’s such a bad low that I wouldn’t be opposed to sending him to retirement

That’s not even close to true though last year Kade Anderson went from a freshmen that couldn’t get outs in sec play to the best pitcher in the league.

AE developed throughout the season, Shores went from a guy people were screaming about and had a flat fastball to dominant out of the pen.

Stanfield also improved from his prior to last year. Now he took major steps back this year.

Same in 23 players took steps from previous season and in season.

Even in 24 we had guys that at least developed.

This year was just a pile of shite.

When did the portal open and how did Woodward hinder his ability in the portal?

I have full support for CJJ. It doesn’t take many words.

I love his brand of baseball. We are always competitive at the plate. And, when we have pitchers that stay around the strike zone, we win.

I still have confidence in Jay but he is not the “best damn coach in the country” because this level of sub-par performance does not happen w/ the best in any sport.

There are/were massive flaws on this team(players and staff). HC is ultimately responsible for those flaws; I’m shocked as most are that it happened under Jay’s watch. A red flag in HC ability that warrants acknowledging. We’ll see if and how Jay fixes its flaws.

Im pretty sure the portal was open while we were busy in Omaha winning the national title. Jay has spoken on it before about others recruiting and he split time recruiting and coaching since we were still in it.

Fat boy Scott originally put baseball rev share in with all other sports while letting WBB get a dedicated share.

So that took more of our baseball NIL to make up the difference.

The timing was probably the biggest factor.

I also have a feeling he went after team first type guys because 24 was such a disfunctional unit and last year we had team first guys that were great. This year not so much

Who is better? There is an extremely limited pool of coaches with 2 national titles currently coaching.

And if you say Tim Corbin who is one, you should look at how bad they have been in the NIL portal era.

Otherwise you are picking someone with one or no titles as the best, which someone that can’t win a title is never going to be accepted at LSU.

Your original comment was about when it opened, which was two weeks prior to Omaha when LSU was playing in regionals, just like a lot of other teams who were getting players from the portal.

so you don’t see the disadvantage of teams that continue to win in the postseason compared to the ones that get eliminated in the regionals, supers, or 2 & bbq in Omaha? More wins = less days to recruit.

Anderson‘s development last year was insanely impressive. The problem is that it is the exception lately. We had 10 returning pitchers this year. Two of them look better than they did a year ago. People keep blaming the portal. We did not develop the talent that we had returning.

People keep crediting Yeskie for Shores development … The best Shores ever looked here was his freshman year before the injury.

There have been many players that have developed under Jay. The problem is very few improved from last year to this year. Whatever they did in the off-season, did not work. This team did not gel and improve as the previous teams have all done (even 2024 got better).
