Why doesn't ULL just officially change their name to "University of Louisiana" ?

Many states have this established. (Florida-Florida St., Michigan-Michgan St., etc.) Maybe then, all this name bickering can stop.
And then "Louisiana" can join the SEC with the next expansion and complete this rise to prominence...

ULM actually sounds cool to me. ULL sounds dumb. I wouldn't even care if they did but they're never joining the SEC

None of it will ever make any difference. The name issue is a farce and makes me sad that Cajuns think they can just proclaim themselves the flagship school. It's a bad joke, and the vicious way Cajun supporters go about insisting on it is embarrassing.

There's a state law that ULM and ULL go by those names.
Also, ULL will never be a part of a major conference. Not enough support.

The name thing has never bothered me.
Around town I say UL, but if I go anywhere I say UL Lafayette. I don't care if someone calls it ULL, it's the name of the damn school. Never understood why it was such a big deal.
I also don't get why people would be offended at someone calling it USL or even SLI. I mean it's all former names of the same school.

Because ULL simply isn't good enough to merit the flagship title and anyone who thinks it is is a fricking idiot.

This. ULM and Tech don't like it. Small fish. LSU doesn't like it, won't allow it and has the political allies to make sure of that. Having a scool named University of Louisiana could cause people to mistake LSUs flagship status if they didn't know better. None of the "peons" in this state will be allowed to be mistaken for the flagship.

This is true. ULL is part of the University of Louisiana system, whose charter states explicitly there is no flagship school, all are equal members. There are nine schools, pretty much everyone in Louisiana except LSU, but ULL tries to make itself appear to be something it is not.

Childish, pointless bullshite fueled by jealousy and spite. This is why ESPN puts up the UL Jaguars logo when the Cajuns play football on one of their networks. We aren't exactly charming people into supporting us.

Bc it's against UL system bylaws. They'd have to get approval from the other system schools and the board of regents. Ain't happenin.
