You said yourself but a couple false words- a Coach Dale Brown leave out those other words and that’s your answer.

Bobby Knight’s famous quote regarding Dale Brown is: “I was worried about losing until I looked down the floor and saw Dale Brown. Then I knew we had a chance.”

This remark was made during the 1987 NCAA Tournament Midwest Regionals when Knight’s Indiana Hoosiers trailed LSU 75-66 with only four minutes remaining. Knight stated that seeing LSU coach Dale Brown standing on the sidelines gave him confidence that his team could recover; Indiana ultimately won the game 77-76 on a last-second shot by Bill Laimbeer.

Or 1981 Final 4, Isiah Thomas goes to bench with 3 fouls in 1st half. What does Dale do? Goes into 4 corners stall for rest of half.

Knight really outcoached Dale down the stretch. Getting a Notre Dame player in the game to make the winning shot was the coup de gras.

Are ChatGPT bots infecting this website? Bill Laimbeer played for Notre Dame in the 1970s

Don’t leave out Wayne Sims. I remember thinking, “ we may get every rebound.” But, CJ doesn’t miss many.

Loved Vernell. Big hops, great D.

How many times did Shaq foul out the game? Shaq was not a polished player at LSU.

He was not polished as a freshman. He was player of the year as a sophomore.

Chris Jackson had the flu & had they beaten Georgia Tech in the 2nd round they probably make it to the Final Four. That year the Final Four was at the Super Dome. What might have been!

In 89-90 (the only year that CJ, Shaq, and Stanley played together) Shaq was 17 (turned 18 in March) and very raw. Mostly rebounded and blocked shots.

Stanley only played 1 year. His freshman year (88-89) he was ineligible (prop 48) because of grades. His sophomore year was Shaquille’s freshman year. This was also CJ’s sophomore year. Stanley didn’t make his grades again after this year and “declared hardship” for the NBA draft.

Shaq’s 2nd and 3rd year are a mystery. CJ and Stanley were gone, but Sims, Singleton, TJ Pugh (assist man), Mike Hansen, and Geert Hamminck were around. I can’t remember if Harold Boudreaux stuck around, but Shaq was National player of the year as a sophomore. He wasn’t raw anymore but was a force. I don’t know why LSU didn’t make a run as he (and the team) got older.

A former point guard.....from Alexandria.....sorry name escapes me...said, after he graduated.....said they would spend an entire practice on the last play of the game shot. The very next game, LSU was down 1 & had the ball for the last play. He said that Dale called the team in a huddle, had them all hold hands, started chanting, tossed his clip bord to the floor, & all the players were completely lost. They never got a shot off.
