re: Why do you think Shaq didn’t win a Natty at LSU?

The same reason, David Robinson, Tim, Duncan, and Hakeem Olajuwon didn’t win one, and the same reason Patrick Ewing didn’t win in 1985, sometimes it just happens like that
Unless Dale Brown was the coach of all of those teams too
But simpleton’s love narratives

???? The Rant - Dale Brown couldn't coach
The rest of basketball - Let's put him in the hall of fame. Also Dale is 3rd in SEC history in wins. The Dale can't coach narrative is soo old. I bet going to 10 consecutive tournaments in a row would be good right now.

The NCAA allowed the Hack a Shaq and would not call intentional fouls, just fouls. Shaq sucked at free throws.
Dale could not protect his players vs the NCAA
Brown had multiple run ins with the NCAA

Easy. Dale Brown as a coach under performed later in his career when he actually had talent. Bob Knight knew no matter how bad it got in the game as long as Dale Brown was on the sideline he knew he had a good chance to come back and win.

Without checking Google I know that Bill Laimbeer played at Notre Dame and the person who hit the shot to beat LSU in 87 was a Baton Rouge kid named Keith Smart.

Yup. Sometimes you need some Indians. They already had the Chiefs.

LSU lost the 2nd round game vs. Ga Tech because we were trading 2s for 3s. That team with Jackson, Shaq, and Roberts was weak guarding the perimeter and Ga Tech quit trying to go inside and just beat us with 3s.
That team beat Larry Johnson and champs UNLV in the regular season but dropped way too many games to average teams.
Jackson went pro (which was not common for sophomores back then) and Roberts did not make the grades to stay. We became one dimensional in Shaq's sophomore and junior seasons.

This was a Final Four game. A different team. I still feel sorry for Fess Irwin.
This was not a Final Four game. It was the Elite Eight MidEast Regional Final in Cincinnati. I know because I was there in the Bengal Brass.
Knight should have absolutely gotten kicked out of the game for breaking the phone after he already had a T for arguing a 3-second call going into that TV timeout. But, I guess it wasn't going to happen with the crowd 90% Indiana fans.
Yes, Fess missed the 1-and-1. There was also a very dubious jump ball where the defender had to reach the ball from behind without touching him--yeah, that didn't happen. And, the refs were ready to call Nikita's shot good, but they got the hell out of there when it bounced off.
Bernard Woodside put up one of the greatest defensive performances ever when he held Steve Alford scoreless from the floor, but the refs eventually fouled him out.
Only game I have ever walked out of convinced the Tigers got screwed by the refs.
GEAUX TIGERS!

The officials didn’t know how to ref someone so much bigger and stronger than the players around him. He was hit, pushed and held on every play. They would be faced with calling fouls on every play or give them leverage to play Shaq.
As I watch Wemby (different type of player and not saying Shaq is Wemby or Wemby is Shaq) every time down the court they hold him and push on him. Do they stop game and call every foul or let them play…. At some point Shaq/Wemby get frustrated and push back…Reminds me of the early 1990s Shaq.
That GTech team was loaded with Dennis Scott and Kenny Anderson.

Next time you ought to check Google.
Keith Smart hit the game winner to win the national championship but not to beat LSU
With only six seconds left on the clock, Indiana's Rick Calloway snuck in for a rebound and a layup to secure the 77-76 victory.

Cause as dominant as he could be physically, he couldn't shoot worth a damn.

I think it might have been a player named Keith smart ,maybe not Keith.

Brown's teams never won a SEC championship at a time when the SEC was not it's normal power league. UK was down & either / or both UGA & Vandy won. Will Fricking Perdue won the League .

You’re right. It deprived the Tigers from a return to the F4. I had just moved to Tn, and had 4 tickets for the F4 in NOLA. Gave the tickets away.
Bernard would muscle through those screens. Awesome D.
