Why do you think Shaq didn’t win a Natty at LSU?

During Shaq’s era at LSU, why do you think he and the Tigers didn’t win a championship? I was little during his run at LSU and wasn’t following the team then. They had solid teams around him, players like Chris Jackson and Stanley Roberts. Obviously an all time great coach in Dale Brown. Why do you think they couldn’t get it done?

Dale Brown was an excellent motivator but not a great floor coach

Bobby Knight’s famous quote regarding Dale Brown is: “I was worried about losing until I looked down the floor and saw Dale Brown. Then I knew we had a chance.”
This remark was made during the 1987 NCAA Tournament Midwest Regionals when Knight’s Indiana Hoosiers trailed LSU 75-66 with only four minutes remaining. Knight stated that seeing LSU coach Dale Brown standing on the sidelines gave him confidence that his team could recover; Indiana ultimately won the game 77-76 on a last-second shot by Bill Laimbeer.

Bobby Knight coaching > Dale Brown coaching. . . .

quote:They were more than solid. Chris Jackson was unstoppable. That team was loaded with talent and I think they lost in the first round of the NCAA tourney? The answer to your question is Dale Brown.

Dale could recruit his arse off. Coach not so much.

There is some footage from an interview with Shaq referencing the egos on the team. They all wanted their points. Dale had not one but two seven footers plus chris Jackson. Between Dale not knowing what to do with that talent, and the team not being a team, it’s “what could have been”

What's the old Jake Gaither quote? "I'll take my boys and beat. yours. Then I'll take your boys and beat mine"
Hated watching Brown get his pants coached off whenever LSU appeared to be knocking at the door.

I don't think most people on this board remember how raw both Shaq and Stanley were their freshman seasons. It took awhile for both to hone their skills.
The NBA style of play definitely helped Shaq as well once he got away from all the double teams he saw in college

That’s overblown. Dales the 3rd winningest coach in SEC history.

Dale Brown. Motivational speeches only go so far.

Well they lost to Ga Tech who had Kenny Anderson, Dennis Scott, Malcom Mackey, Matt Geiger. Brian Oliver. They were damn good. That's 5 NBA players right there.

That era had better teams, less room for error and Brown really screwed up the entire time Shaq was here. That was the start of his slide

Didnt Bill Laimbeer play for Notre Dame?
