Because college football shouldn't be fun dammit!!!! ACT LIKE YOU'VE BEEN THERE...IT'S BUSINESS

Fun fact: I was in the student section when we lost to then beat Tennessee... we did NOT storm the field but when the dog pile the occured in the stands cleared, a dude had broken his leg...or at least badly sprained it.... thankfully the cheap bourbon numbed it... we carried him out the student section down to an EMT with him chanting GEAUX TIGERS!

Why? Why does storming the field have such a negative connotation among some football fans? Where does that come from?

Because many think that it should be reserved for very big upsets. Storming the field after beating a team that is only ranked a few spots higher is not a major upset. People feel like we should act like we are already a good team and shouldn't behave like we are not.

I don't necessarily agree with all of that and felt it was fine for the Ole Miss game because like others have said, the fans played a big role in the game and it was an incredibly emotional game for the fans. It felt like we were on the ropes the whole game and we finally put things together at the end of the 4th quarter and in overtime on offense.

They need something to complain about if we win.

If we don't rush the field, then they bitch about
Concessions
Parking
Piped in music
Music Selection
People leaving early
People sitting down

Lmao like that $250,000 would actually be used to improve the school

You can look at it that way, or you can view it as more of an investment. Potential students and athletes see an electric atmosphere in Tiger Stadium and the students rushing the field, and it may influence their decision to attend LSU, which could more than account for $250K.

Man this game really had nothing to bitch about imo

The new sound system is great, and the light show really kinda made the piped in music more engaging. even if it wasn't songs I typically like it was undeniably cool.

I don't think a soul left early

It was loud af.... even the west uppers where I sit was deafening during ole misses overtime possession...it had to be painfully loud on the field.

and as always I pounded tailgate food and packed a flask so concessions were a non factor.

the pulse of the croud was interesting. LSU had multiple chances to take the lead and never took advantage. Then Nuss's last two passes of the game were touchdowns.

It was a like 100,000 people with blue balls for 4 hours followed by a giant collective joygasm. There have been much worse field storming's than this one.

I can see that side of it but since the $250K goes to Ole Miss we are investing in their NIL. We probably just gave them a good transfer player.

Why do people say stupid shite like this? Treat every thing as an extreme zero sum? You can’t have fun at the bars? At the frat/sorority house or dorms after the games? We had a fricking blast when LSU beat UNLV when I was a student without storming the court.

And for those you unaware that the world existed before the year 2010 people did get hurt in one case back in the 80s someone was seriously injured by the goalposts it lead to lawsuits and the collapsible goalposts we have now. So no it’s not about “not having fun” it’s called we saw the consequences and it was stopped

We are LSU. We should expect to win especially against Ole Miss. Storming the field is for up and coming programs who have no history like Ole Miss. That being said...i think it was just the nature of the win and how it transpired, so I wasn't "mad" about it...but it is Ole Miss.

Could have used that $250k a little more usefully. Save that for a #1 team, not a #9

I understand doing it but the issue is the liability for the university if someone gets hurt and fines for SEC teams.

LSU was fined $250,000 which is to be paid to Ole Miss. If they beat Bama and rush the field it will be $500,000 to Bama.

I realize that often young people do not think that broadly about consequences but why would any real fan want to do that?

I’m normally anti rushing the field but I didn’t mind it for several reasons.

1. It’s Ole Miss. it’s our second biggest rival and their recent run of success had them cocky, especially with Lane throwing shade after they beat LSU last year. Hell, I might hate them more than I do Bama now that Saban is gone.

2. There was a lot of pent up emotions for those in the stadium and just in the fan base in general. A lot of fans weren’t bought into this team just yet after the loss to USC. Questions about CBK against ranked opponents and just a feeling of unease about him as HC in general, if we were really a playoff contender, etc. getting a win like that was almost like a huge sigh of relief - and especially so for the fans in attendance. It was a long game and we never led, always just a play or two from taking control but never did. Same for Ole Miss.

3. People keep saying shite like “it was just Ole Miss” or “we need to act like a premier program and premier programs don’t rush the field” or other silly shite like that. But this was essentially an elimination game in the middle of the season for LSU and even Ole Miss. This wasn’t just a one loss Ole Miss team. That was a team that was hyped and predicted by A LOT of people to make it to the playoff. LSU was not. So to beat a playoff contender, who is also our second biggest rival, and essentially eliminate them from going to the playoff AND increase your own odds to make the playoff after everyone - even some sections of our own fan base - had written you off is a big deal.

TLDR: if you’re a fan and upset about LSU rushing the field after a win over a rival in very specific circumstances, you need to get the stick out of your arse

Storming the field didn't use to be a common thing, it was reserved for playoff/championship level wins. Also maybe after beating the top ranked team when you've lost 15 in a row to that team. Remember when after a big win the team would go to the student section, where fans were still partying and celebrating, and join the celebration? Now fans run on the field after any exciting win. The point is, it's a safety issue. Fans should celebrate in the stands. Play Neck, Set it Off, whatever and have a special time enjoying the big win.

I am all for storming the field when the situation truly warrants it. IMHO, storming the field is reserved for a bottom dweller program on the rise that takes down a powerhouse (Vandy-Bama, etc). I don't believe as LSU we should be rushing the field when we beat anyone right now. We have the second most championships in all of college football since 2000, and even though Ole Miss was ranked over us and picked to win, there should always be a level of expectation that we find a way to beat our rivals. With that expectation comes the expectation to act like you have been there before, act like the level of program you are, and not rush the field when you do what you are supposed to do.

it makes you look like a small school that pulled an upset instead of a elite championship contender. It should be saved for massive monumental upsets that no one saw coming, not 3 point underdogs ranked one spot below the visitor.
this is the correct answer.

I'm not sure...I'm 56 years old, I graduated from LSU in 1990. I love that place. I have three kids there right now. You bet your arse my wife and I were down there on that field celebrating with thousands of others including our own kids. Its fun, it makes for a stirring image when viewed on TV and it is just an expression of unbridled joy.

I love the personal connection that my wife and now my own kids have to Tiger Stadium, the Tiger Football team and college football in general. Its just a beautiful thing.
