Agreed. Eight was all they needed. No bye needed.

You have to have byes to maintain the importance of the regular season as much as possible.

I also believe EVERY GAME should be played at the higher seed's stadium until the final "super bowl" type game that would be played at a neutral site bid out each year to once again keep the importance of the regular season.

I never liked four teams. Five, six, or seven could work also. Just keep the byes

This year shows that really only the Top 8 belong.

8 is enough. Tennessee, Indiana and SMU weren't competitive in their opening rounds; Clemson was only marginally better. These were all terrible football games

Conference champs only.

Yes…I’m aware that Notre Dame isn’t in a conference. If they want to be in the playoffs, they’ll need to join one.

The need for everyone to have a chance.

It should have never gotten past 8.

That's why I think College Football will be going to the NFL model. 2 conferences (SEC & Big 10) and multiple divisions in each conference.

The key is to eliminate the conference championship games. Just do it like baseball - declare a champion based on record and tiebreakers.

Then use the computer system that takes records and SOS to pick 16 teams, like the old BCS system. Seed them, play home game to highest seed, neutral site semi and final, like last year. If it happens that one conference has 5 teams in the 16, then so be it. Vegas has systems that can crunch all of this data to perfection.

I say go to 16 teams just like any other D1 tourney and don’t give bye weeks. Also separate the bowls from the playoffs. 1st round higher seeds host, elite 8 neutral sites, final 4 (NRG, LV, Miami and LA) host and championship game wherever the Super Bowl is being held or AT&T

8 would have been pretty clear cut with the 5 champs and then 3 at large would have been Texas, Notre Dame, and Penn State. All teams who went 11-1 in the regular season. Ohio State would probably complain about being left out, but they went 10-2 and ended the season with a loss to a bad Michigan team. So their argument wouldn’t hold much water

I think SMU and Indiana went 11-1 in the regular seasons.

I’ve never seen a college football season when I thought the #9 team had a shot to win the NC.

Still the case. It expanded to 12 for money, sure, but also because then the auto bids from teams ranked in the teens wouldn’t push out legitimate teams. Now at least from this round on you’ll usually have 8 good teams going after it

Matchups matter more in football.

Yes I get it. They declare a regular season champion. The tournament winner is a seperate whole thing. The regular season champion is who the champion is.
