Not the biggest bust or anything but someone who we finished a close 2nd place with that ended up being real good. Someone Dale almost had.

Think like Landon Collins but for basketball.

Robert Parish, Joe Dumars, Karl Malone and JR Rider all highly considered LSU but signed elsewhere.

So the answer should’ve obviously been Karl Malone. He’s easily the best player of those listed w/Dumars a distant 2nd.

Parish was the best of the 3 in High School and Centenary received Probation for the recruitment of Parish.

Parish was Dale's first year, and there were some questions regarding his eligibility. He gets a pass on that one.

Dumars, supposedly, wanted to play at a smaller school to get immediate playing time. Not sure how true that is, but he bypassed at least one offer from FSU. He was not heavily recruited by LSU.

Malone also had academic eligibility issues and did not play his freshman season, but he initially committed to Arkansas before switching to La Tech. I do not believe LSU recruited him at all. So that would still make this a miss IMO.

JR Rider was a West Coast kid. LSU did heavily recruit him out of JUCO, but I guess he decided UNLV was too close to home to pass up. Also a miss, but given the proximity, not the miss that Malone was

Sabonis would’ve been so sick.

If that dude played his whole career in the NBA he’d be considered an all time great IMO.

Does Tito count? he technically put on an LSU uniform, but never played here. Tito and John Williams could have been a great duo.

this came to mind b/c everyone knew about him and he played at the Assembly Center in a game and Dale rolled out the red carpet for him

I don’t know if he even considered LSU, however, Rick Robey (Brother Martin N.O.) was a pretty big recruit and had a pretty good career at Kentucky.

It would’ve also been nice to get Kerry Kittles and Donald Royal out of St. Aug in the 80s.

Are you sure about that? You think they chose Centenary, La Tech and McNeese over an SEC school? It’s more like everyone missed on them. Kind of like Dak Prescott to Miss St

Always vexed me as to why he picked Centenary over LSU. The only thing I can think is he wanted to be closer to home.
