Need to clean up gap discipline

Multiple big plays in the first 3 games came on lack of gap discipline and sealing the edges. I feel like this is the biggest thing we need to fix on the defense,

Weeks needs to seal the edge; stop overplaying the ball and stay more disciplined.

Whit doesn’t have top tier athleticism, but he is a fantastic tackler. I feel like every time he meets someone in the gap they go down. He rarely misses tackles. His biggest downfall is just not having the speed to be very elite

We must not have watched the same game. It is hard to imagine that a program like LSU doesn't have better LBs than that.

At least he gives effort every play, I can live with that

He also gave up the long touchdown by not handling his responsibilities. Wasn't anywhere near a great game

This Guy will be a monster for us for years to come. Alot of young guys are starting to show what the next few years will bring for the defense. Hoping Kelly can lock up this years recruiting class. This year will still have more bumps but starting next year i believe we will finally see depth and talent on the defensive side of the ball.

Can’t say this about Weeks. We have to pretend that he’s good.

Being our “best” LB doesn’t make him good.

Did we watch the same game? I don’t remember him being full time for USCw.

Thats what I said. He wasn't full time against USCw and I think we looked better against a much better offense.

Sure we had more big plays yesterday, but we also gave up more big plays to a much worse offense. If their starting QB doesn't go down we most likely lose the game and this conversation would be about how much worse our defense looked.

They threw like 6 passes in the 2nd half and we were a wind gust away from losing.

Can someone tell me, on that long run, where were our safeties? How was there no one past the line of linebackers?

Weeks had containment. Thye were probably in position to do their jobs, if weeks doesn't run away from his duties

I get that, he was awful. But DE’s lose containment often, and that’s not the end of the line on defense. Usually, safeties are the final line of containment.

I’m asking where they were? Maybe there was a defense called where they were all rolled up to the line? Maybe a double blitz? I’m just asking, does anyone know what was going on with the safeties during the run?

What were his responsibilities on that play? How do our fans know what each players responsibilities on every play not knowing the defense called? According to Herbie, I value his knowledge more than fans on a message board, the end didn’t set the edge on the play. Idk whose fault it was but I’m guessing it wasn’t just Weeks fault. BK praised him in post game press conference which kind of surprised me but like I said we don’t know defense called and the responsibility for each player on the call. I also saw Campbell getting ripped for blocking down one play and the end made the tackle…how do we know that was what he was supposed to do. I see plays all the time that don’t block the end and the end chases down the play from backside. It doesn’t mean the guy missed his assignment.

Nick Saban preached it incessantly - Do your job! Don’t try to do the other guy’s job. That’s what Whit Weeks tried to do when he gave up that keeper.

He's limited (running outside the tackles / strength at point of attack) but he does some things well. Good rushing the passer.

As he plays more, his instincts will improve and he will be able to make up for some of the limitations. Every great LB has instincts / effort / playmaking ability. He has the baseline already.

Nope. Equally important. The ones he made helped us win.

A lot of our LB issues are related to how bad our DTs are. The overplaying you’re talking about is because they know we can’t stop anybody inside and they’re taking risks they normally wouldn’t.

Sure looks like it to me. He is quick and fast. He’ll get stronger, and I think he will be a prototype NFL LB.

With a shite d-line, your middle linebacker better lead you in tackles or you’re in big trouble

Maybe so. I haven’t given up on these guys but a little disappointing the LB group looks as bad as they have.
