Which is the bigger issue? NIL or the transfer portal?

They are closely related currently. NIL can't be controlled because it's not within the power of the NCAA. It's a contract between a company and an individual. Same as pros and their endorsements. Programs have to adapt. One issue that can be corrected is the transfer portal. That needs addressed.

NIL is being used in ways it wasn't intended for which I think everyone saw coming.

Its become a open pay for play scheme. Everyone has always paid players but now its out in the open with not much regulation from the NCAA.

But it has become entirely too easy to up and leave and has caused a lot more chaos when combined together.

I think the transfer portal is the bigger issue. A player may not transfer if he has to sit out a year even with a better NIL deal.

Why do you want it fixed?

LSU is a major player and heavily benefit from both

Transfer portal. Add back sit a yr unless you've graduated, or family reason (illness, etc), and you stop the bidding wars. Better for kids and programs, as each is more commited to that scholarship and member of the team.

The transfer portal is fine other than maybe some timing tweaks.

Maybe you meant to say the "one free transfer" rule?

Both were sent here to destroy college athletics.

Both are not an issue. Its just a new landscape that will settle in a couple of years.

They both embody American values; free market and liberty.

I think The transfer portal
Is a bit too much. It’s just all over the place. My fixes:

You can transfer after 3 years and if you graduate.
You can transfer if your HC leaves or is fired.

Portal

Old transfer rules meant you really had to want to transfer.

NIL deals are causing the rush to other teams.

Unrestricted transfer portal is the bigger issue. If you put restrictions on it that culls everything else but they're not because they'll just get sued constantly.

The NCAA is the biggest issue. That is a CLUELESS organization that shoots from the hip and is reactive instead of proactive.

NIL, because it’s almost single-handedly powering the transfer portal amongst the top tier athletes

Product on the field is as good , if not better, than it’s ever been.

The “issue” is not as bad as those on the message boards make it out to be.

The transfer portal by far, it can deplete a roster or make you very weak in a couple positions that prevent you from vying for a national championship. At the same time, I’m not a fan of NIL but money was being thrown around illegally to players long ago. So, it’s not as big of a problem in my opinion.

Portal and it’s not close.

A player should be give a free pass to leave a school for graduation or if his coach leaves.

Otherwise this unhappy want to go elsewhere should include the sit out a year rule again.
