Not great. But the greatest season ever makes up for the last 2 years 100 times over.

I think based solely on what they did at LSU:

More importantly is what Saban did FOR LSU. He established a foundation for long term success

If Orgeron took over LSU in 1991, he would be every bit as bad or worse than Curley.

doubtful. People want to bring up the “luck” he had in the title year while disregarding the bad luck the team had the last two re:injuries. Can’t have it both ways.

Les got away with a lot because of his success but he let too many get away with entirely too much. That fricked up debacle against BAMA in the Superdome when he stayed with JJ was peak embarrassment as an LSU fan. Miles sidestepped Perrileaux getting busted w counterfeit money at a casino and later had to bounce Ryan completely bc he had the gun at the Varsity/Chimes incident. Les fricked up big time with his long leash.
Miles face-planted in the biggest title game of all at home,
Orgeron face-planted in his girlfriends lap and somebody leaked it.

Arnsbarger? He set this program back years. Failure to recruit left Archer with nothing. He recommended we hire Archer instead of Spurrier then he hires Spurrier when he became AD at Florida. Never understand everybody's love affair with him. Goal is NCs Orgeron put the pieces in place to get us one. So you whinny b!tches can hate him all you want, but he's near the top.
Miles, Saban, Dietzel, Orgeron, Cholly

Although his stint was short, he's up there because of his Natty with the greatest college football team ever in college football history.

Dietzel and Arnsparger definitely better than Miles. They built something.

What exactly did Arnbarger build? Built the foundation for 5 straight losing seasons then left and hired Spurrier. Thanks

How is Miles up there? If someone else other than Miles was the head coach during that same time span, LSU would have easily won three Nattys. As opposed to the one that Miles lucked out to win after backing his way into the BCS. Not to mention that Miles to this damn day still can't manage a clock even if his life depended on it, let alone a football game.

Ed O is far better than Miles ever dreamed of being.

Not really. Taking over LSU in 1991 was similar to taking over Ole Miss in 2005

Ole miss was 17-15 in the SEC the 4 years before Orgeron

O went 3-21

LSU was 15-12 in the SEC the 4 years before Curley

Curley went 10-21

I absolutist think O is just as bad a football coach as Curley Hallman. He is horrific

1. Saban (total rebuild, NC, built future success)
2. Miles (won a NC and played for another)
3. Mac (total wins, longtime success)
4. Dietzel (NC)
5. Arnsberger (short stretch but great stretch)

O is not on my list.

Absurd take. The 1987 squad finished 10-1-1 No 5 in the nation, and pathetic tie against Ohio St where we dominated and late pick in endzone cost us . Hodson was out for Bama. We also won the SEC in 1988. You blaming Arnsparger for 1989 and beyond? Ridiculous.

This was in spite of having Archer as coach. Go look at the NFL greats from that squad.

Hiring Archer was Joe Dean's fault for listening to players like Ruffin, if he bought his future competitor recommendation (Arnsparger) shame on Dean.

Saban, Arnsparger and Charlie Mac.

No Miles because Les allowed it to fall apart too. (Like Shrimpy) When all the Saban recruits started using up their eligibility, the program substantially subsided. Square Peg-Round Hole QB's and start of the dysfunctional Offensive Line recruiting with the Miles regime as well......

He was 114-34. 1 NC. Played for another. 2 SEC titles. 3 West titles. Bowls every year. Won 7 bowls. Yeah he got dumb at the end but he had the greatest run in LSU history. He’s in the top 5 easily. Easily.
