Obviously you are too young to remember Archer or Hallman. Maybe look up their records.

LSU's program in the late 80s-early 90s was a vastly different program than it is today.

I mean he is one of 4 who won a natty. That counts for something.

Dietzel and Arnsparger definitely better than Miles. They built something.

My initial doubts as to how much he actually had to do with that appear to have been true. Setting the program back a couple of of decades diminishes him and his tenure even more.

Decent coach, good man.

Could never quite get the program over the hump.

It’s a one season fix.

The drug testing program needs to be reworked that “sets the program back” more than anything O did.

So we take the “can’t meet the standards let’s lower the standards approach?” Check

when you have future NFL players get kicked out the program and go to other SEC schools and start on day 1 it says a lot about what the commitment to winning is here compared to other schools. When is the last time Bama kicked a played off the team for smoking pot and he went and started for another SEC school.

I thought this place told me Les ruined the program before O stepped in?

So O comes in and brings the program back to achieve its highest point ever and gets no credit. But the .500 seasons to follow are his doing?

We all know Saban is a better coach (that’s probably an understatement). But if we are talking about the success of their tenure, it’s Les and it’s not even close. Never been a better stretch in LSU football history

I dont think this is obvious either.
The big 3 to me are Saban, Arnsparger, and Dietzel

Les is 4th

You're an idiot. Did Arnspager win a national championship? How can you have him ahead of Dietzel or Miles?

Silly to think LSU will be a bottom dweller for 20+ years. The sky is not falling.

No doubt he is a potato, but at the end of the day he was the HC and won a title at LSU in that capacity.

Paul Dietzel should at best be 4th on this list. Easily one of the worst overall coaches to win a national championship of all time. He got a national championship, sure, but so did Miles and Ed. And Miles, as boneheaded as he was, has a way better overall record than Dietzel. As does McClendon

Coach O put together the best football team in the history of college football, in the most prominent sport in college. If this doesn't count for something in the rankings, then I don't know what does.

And yes he should be fired.

How are you enjoying the last 2 seasons so far? Coach O is a bum.
