This is always the absolute dumbest question.

Sure let’s not cut out the cancer that’s killing us.

Kelly could lose ALL of the remaining games on the schedule and he's not going anywhere! WE DON"T HAVE $60 million! He could go 0-12 next year and he's not going anywhere! WE DON'T HAVE $50 million! He could go 0-12 the following year and maybe, just maybe, we can scrape together $40 million but that's doubtful.

Just because you want something, doesn't mean it will happen. I want Sidney Sweeny to blow me but that doesn't mean it will happen.

Kirby Smart, Ryan Day, Kalen DeBoer, Dan Lanning are all the top names in coaching right now and would not leave their programs.

But LSU fans would demand the AD try to land them. Of course, only with a 4 year contract that has no buyout and fully incentive based pay

If you want the "low" contract everyone here is clamoring for that is your market.

Jon Sumrall... it wouldn't be a big move for him and his family in regards to re-location. Imagine what he could do with the talent at LSU.

So many players will opt out that they will probably get spanked in the lame bowl, too.

Proven Guys

Eli Drinkwitz: His personality is quirky for sure, but the guy can coach. He has Missouri punching wayyyyy above it's weight class and has sustained some level of success for several years.

Lane Kiffin: We don't need to rehash what has been discussed thousands of times, but you know what you are going to get with Lane. A big personality and a ton of creativity on the offensive side of the ball. The question is whether he can find his guy at DC and field a competent defense.

Young Up and Comers

Jon Sumrall: What he did at Troy was nothing short of impressive, and he appears to be doing the same at Tulane. He's a young guy with ties to the SEC (from Texarkana and played at Kentucky).

Alex Golesh: A little less proven than Sumrall, but he appears to be another great young coach that has turned a program around.

Rhett Lashlee: Another young head coach with a ton of ties to the SEC. He's out of the Malzahn coaching tree, so he's going to be creative on offense. Took SMU to a CFP appearance last year.

Offensive line and offensive line blocking scheme. With some bad play calling from time to time.

One man. Target URBAN MEYER. Make him the highest paid coach at $14 M per year. $1 M more per year than Kirby Smart. He's a sleazeball but wins NC's.

In FL he recruited against FSU and Miami. He would kill it in Louisiana.
No thanks. After a year of dealing with LSU fans and their expectations of instant playoff contender he'd have more heart issues and quit - again.

PS: If there was even a reasonable chance that Urban would actually stay and stick it out here through the turbulence likely to ensue in his first two years, he'd be a top target.

I just don't think he could hack it here long enough to make the juice worth the squeeze, especially not in today's high-pressure SEC coaching/recruiting/NIL environment.

Kirby and Day the only ones who have won a natty on that list. Dabo has won 2 and Clemson wants him gone too.

DeBoer everyone thought he wouldnt finish the season after losing to florida state in week 1

Lanning cant win a big game and what has he done with the most money in college football backing him?

Its all a luck of the draw and the SEC schedule is only going to get tougher next year. Plus Kelly not going anywhere.

I think Lanning would do very good at LSU, but I think he is at Oregon for the long haul. The fans love him out there. DeBoer's record is pretty insane against the top 25. He's 19-3 as head coach. The complete opposite of James Franklin. Sometimes patience pays off and that seems to be the case with DeBoer.

too old and just got a top 3 contract behind Day and Smart. He’s not going anywhere, has all the resources he needs. I was surprised they are 12th in football NIL spend and the contract he got only backs up the resources they have. In the new NIL era Indiana is now a player in the B1G. Pretty shocking given their history (most losses in FBS history, 0 bowl wins since 1991).

Brohm and Golesh will probably be top names of realistic hires in the top tier coaching searches

He's the 11th highest paid HC at $9M per year. Mizzou would certainly be willing to increase that to some degree if they had to.

Kiffin is 10th on the list and the same thing applies to Ole Miss.

So the question is what do LSU fans want? The "proven" HC who is going to command a big contract? One that would likely be almost as onerous as Kelly's contract that the fans hate now?

Or do you want a less proven guy who will take a lower contract

This fantasy land were the likes of a Kirby Smart comes to LSU on a low "merit based" contract with no buyout doesn't exist.
