re: What’s your opinion on the called intentional hit by pitch

I think the rule is about intentionally moving into a pitch. I can see if you move your elbow outside of the batter’s box, but when you move your arm down and it’s still in the box, that’s not intentionally moving into a pitch.

Umps should have over ruled it was 3-2 count and ball 4 they were trying to fix the game frick them

A little common sense in a 3 ball count would be nice, but by the letter of the rule, i guess they can say he dropped his elbow, but i think its a marginal call at best. With a 3 ball count, id prefer on a marginal call, that they make the common sense call

Not to mention that it’s impossible to “curl up” without dropping your elbow. People tend to curl up when they’re about to be hit by something moving 95 mph

Thankfully it didn't cost us the game

Agree. Full count, obvious Ball 4…bases empty….who gives a shite whether he gets hit or not
Same result.
That shite needs to be addressed

I thought it was bullshite. Iv been watching lsu all season and have seen numerous hit by pitches with similar elbow movements with the arm and it was NEVER called!! What irritates me the most that is was ball 4 to begin with.

It was a huge swing for that inning, seems like that pitcher was on the edge and that batter staying off first really helped him

What really pissed me off is they gave that call to the team that set the ncaa record for getting hbp
You will never convince me that CC doesn’t coach their players to get hit.

Black ump could have said “ the call on the field stands” and nobody would have thought a damn thing about it. Meanwhile, first base ump gets his old senile arse in the way and potentially cost us a run and there are no repercussions, frick that !

Yeah I mean on replay you could kind of say he moved his elbow into the ball, but if you remove the ball you see a guy turning away and pulling his elbow away from the plate. The ball was a foot inside and coming on him at a high velocity. It just seems crazy to overturn that and strike a guy out instead on something like that. The premise of the rule is good, but that was a poor application of it.

put yourself into a batting stance and turn your body away from a would be ball inside…where does your elbow naturally go? it literally drops down and tucks away protecting your ribs
I didn’t make the rule. I had my season end two years ago on this very rule, but if you are going by the verbiage of the rule they got it right.

What the rule SHOULD be: If the batter moves over or towards the plate, he’s out. They watch this crap in slo-mo and see a guy dropping his elbow. The reason they’re dropping their elbow is because they have an arm guard and are naturally trying to protect themselves. When a pitch is coming at you 90+, your instincts kick in. He did not move towards the plate. bullshite call.

The announcers made it sound like it was obvious
Rule should probably be changed that it’s just a ball unless the HBP occurs over the plate or in the strike zone, but you can’t really make a legitimate argument that his move into the path of the ball was natural.

but what are your thoughts?
My thought is the rule sucks. Nothing should change the fact the ball was inside the batters box. If it’s 2-2 and he did it then he shouldn’t get first base but the count is now 3-2. Rewarding the other team for a ball a foot inside is stupid, period.

I thought he was watching the ball all the way until it hit him, and that he WAS trying to get hit. I don't think he walked up to the plate thinking that was a plan, but I think in the moment he thought he'd take advantage and give CC some of their own.
I also thought it took some dickhead balls to challenge the play considering how much CC gets away with it.

So rather than just take ball 4 you believe he wanted to "show" CC by getting hit by a 92mph baseball? You learn that at bandcamp?

No opinion. It was bullshite. Even the commentators said it was ball 4
It wasn’t ball 4 if he intentionally got hit though

It’s insane that’s an out should be whatever the call would be if it didn’t hit him
Posted on 6/21/25 at 9:31 pm to Meatball
It wasn’t obvious enough on a ball 4 pitch.
