What’s the story behind the eyesore of Esplanade Shopping Center in Baton Rouge off I-10?

Fox and Hound has been closed for over 13 years now.
The vacant eyesore where it used to be between Clicks and Sullivan’s looks beyond reprehensible.
Can it not be rebuilt or demolished without affecting Clicks and Sullivan’s?
What was once an entertainment center of the city is just an absolute mess these days and has been for years.

Owners had a falling out in the aughts. Been stuck in litigation limbo since.

Is that the shopping center with Hooters in it? If so, it looks like hell. I used to frequent Fox and Hound and Poet's back in the day. It's a disaster now.

Fox and the hound had great pool tables and great beer specials back in the day.

Louisiana is in desperate need of competent Mixed-use Master Plan developers, including proper RDE projects (retail, dining and entertainment). We suffer from the never-ending strip mall.

I remember in the 80's -90's the interior was a small mall with some nice clothing stores (Todd Garland, RFD, Benneton)...is there anything inside that building anymore?

Unless I’m making this up, I want to say I read on here years ago that some of the units need significant repairs/renovations and no one wants to be the one on the hook. I agree with you that it’s prime real estate, though.

There was another bar there called The Common Point. I think that was the name.

Fox and hound was awesome. Great food too and one of the better beer selections in the region.

At one point they forced out The Melting Pot when their lease came up. At the time they were supposedly trying to dump all tenants to do something with the building.

Of the malls that occupied Baton Rouge, Corporate Mall is the shortest lived. It was a 120,000 square foot enclosed mall located at the intersection of College Drive at Corporate Boulevard as part of a commercial development known as Corporate Square. Groundbreaking began in 1972, and stores opened in November 1973. Technically, it was Baton Rouge's first enclosed mall (as Bon Marché enclosure was completed in 1974, and Cortana Mall opened in 1976) and was designed as a "fashion mall" consisting primarily of clothing stores, specialty stores, and restaurants. argest and primary anchor was the locally based I. H. Rubenstein and Sons clothing store. Other original tenants included Alan Abis, Almar Book Store, Beau James barber shop, Brass Hanger, Camera House, Carriage Trade Flower and Gifts, Christian Book and Gift Center, Clothes Closet, Doris Dodge Fashion Square, Fancy Fins, Gilhes, Holiday Hallmark Shop, Jules Madere Jewelers, Louisiana National Bank, Merle Norman, Ogden Record Shop, Piano and Organ Mart of Louisiana, Peppermint Tree, RFD, Todd, and Garland, Steinberg's, Sugar Shack, Tanner-Kimbrell, and Tiger Travel. Corporate Mall also had four restaurants to anchor the four corners of the mall: Shoney's, El Chico, The Square Peg, and E. L. Saturdays (a TGI Friday's Spinoff restaurant).

Melting Pot was a very busy restaurant for years. Combined with Sullivan’s the parking lot was always full. It was a very lively entertainment atmosphere for years.

It was listed on Loopnet a few years ago but came off not long after.

The Common Point (aka the come on point) was, at least in my 80’s era located on Sherwood Forest Blvd. That is where the older 30’s and 40’s crowd hung out ..,at least I thought they were old at that time. Don’t see it that way now. At all.

It was rebranded in the 1980's as Esplanade Mall.
Speaking of forgotten malls in Baton Rogue. Who remembers the Essen Mall that had the movie theatre in it. It's the area where Ichiban is today.
