I remember it.
My main memory is the small arcade just outside the theater. Flipping the power switch on Track And Field would give you a free credit.

At the time they were supposedly trying to dump all tenants to do something with the building.
Makes sense. It’s a great location and not a bad looking building as far as strip malls go. Close to decent hotels and traffic. Used to have a ton of good tenants and I couldn’t figure out why it emptied out. I’d assumed the price per sq ft was too high.
The thing that really needs dealing with is that row of trap houses and trashy empty lots on the College Dr service road b/w I-10 and Wendy’s. I hate that it’s the first thing people see when they get off the highway there.

Well the owners of the whole center really want to knock it down and redevelop it, but they are stuck with some long term leases ( I am guessing Hooters ? ) .. so I think the plan the last several years has been to let the center go to crap and hope the tenants up and leave.. That is why the back side facing the interstate has been halfway finished for years, I believe.

Scott Bankston, who is Hartley’s associate and manages the property, concedes the property has been problematic, and says the highest and best use for the 11-acre site is to demolish and redevelop it. But he says the partners cannot do that because of long-term lease agreements in place.

That place was lit in the 1990s. Spent many a days hanging out there. I also had my first job at Limited Too in that mall.

Fox and Hound sunk its location in Elmwood (NOLA) for a long time too. Don’t know what’s there now.
Prior to Fox and Hound, it was a local pool hall called the Big Easy that had probably 20 tables and hosted tournaments. It was awesome. Also had a bar and kitchen with decent poboys.
Edit: It’s a lasertag place.

can you imagine canal st with more actual mixed use stuff?
I can, and speak about this frequently. Canal street is a continued missed opportunity, along with Port NOLA, lack of a theatre district, and a more developed sports and entertainment district (dome and SKA area).

Now they are starting to sell used cars on College Drive down by Wendy’s Beautiful look.

Interesting article. Crazy that is almost 10 years ago.

So that was the nightclubs name?
Common Point was on Sherwood then I think.

Common Point was definitely on Sherwood Forest. I think close to where Mango’s volleyball is now.

Common Point was were Sherwood Animal South vet is. When Common Point closed, the vet bought it and expanded the vet.

I know.. 10 years later and same thing.. I am guessing it is Hooters with the long term lease, but I went in there a couple of weeks ago for the first time in years and there were only a couple of tables occupied, don't see how it can hang on much longer

I’ve often wondered how the BR metro area can sustain 3 Hooters locations (College, Siegen and Denham Springs) when several have shut down throughout the country.

Louisiana is in desperate need of competent Mixed-use Master Plan development, including proper RDE projects (retail, dining and entertainment). We suffer from the never-ending strip mall.
there is no master plan that can survive or endure the assault of urban culture that eventually makes its way into every "nice" area. Many of the strip malls that now blight BR were once decent retail centers. I'll let you guess why they turned to shite.

The Common Point (aka the come on point) was, at least in my 80’s era located on Sherwood Forest Blvd. That is where the older 30’s and 40’s crowd hung out ..,at least I thought they were old at that time. Don’t see it that way now. At all.
