This is a 2 fold issue:
1) JJ stifled any progress Simmons could have brought to LSU. When you get a player as good as Ben Simmons and you can’t even make the tournament, you handcuff yourself on the recruiting trail. No good player will come to your school cuz you couldn’t win with a great player.
Same thing eventually happened to Dale Brown but he at least faired better than JJ with his talent. Once he showed that you can’t at least make a final four with Shaq, Chris Jackson, and Stanley Roberts it was the beginning of the end.
2) Simmons never wanted to be here in the first place. You can fault him for it if you want but we were just the vehicle to get him draft eligible. While I do think he comes off as childish with his pouting about being forced to play college ball for a year, he isn’t wrong. For me it’s not what he is saying, it’s how he is saying it that rubs the wrong way.
In summary, I don’t blame Simmons for the debacle of 2015. That shite falls on JJ.

'06 Jamarcus -got better as the year went on and was almost unstoppable by the end of it. Great college QB

Ben also had LSU basketball plastered all over Sports Center and sports talk shows for an entire season and draft process which is good for recruiting as well.
Here we are with Will Wade and the #4 recruiting class. Publicity is always a good thing.

I was thinking of this. Guy had no issues while a student and played great.
It's a weird thing. He was a bust in the NFL, people hate him. Simmons isn't a bust and won't be in the NBA, people hate him for not doing enough at LSU.

I blame a kid that I witnessed play lazy and only for himself and then bad mouthed the school after he quit on them before the season ended.
