What type of performance against auburn would change your mind on the QB situation?

I’m a believer in Brennan being the starter. Brennan didn’t have a running game when he was playing and using the RPO helps open up another level to this offense.

That being said, is there any type of performance Finley could put on that would have you reconsider whether Brennan should actually be the starter?

Like if the offense scores 50 on Auburn would that change your mind?

I’m pretty sure I read on here last week than Brennan should be ready to go v auburn per his dad.

Really? I’ve heard so many mixed reports on this. Some said it’s extremely serious. Are we better with a still pretty banged up brennan? I’d personally rather see him get to full health before coming back. Could use him for Bama a lot more than auburn.

Running game is key. If we continue to make that a priority, we beat Auburn comfortably. They're defense isn't great and neither is ours, but we move the ball more effectively than they do.

A good defensive performance is the only thing I’m concerned about at this point.

The QB room is the least of this teams problems for a change.

No.

But let's say MB remains out for 4-5 games and Finley plays extremely well in those games...then I could see Finley remaining the starter

None. If Finley beats Bama, then we can talk.

I'm sure USC's game plan was to try to stop the run and keep everything relatively simple on the back end to see if the Freshman could be them. He did. But that was possible because the LSU run game was as good as it has been all season. Auburn has better personnel in the front 7 and I'm sure they will challenge Finley more now that they have film on him and what LSU his trying to do with Finley as their starter.

However, if the offense is as efficient vs. Auburn and Finley makes many of the field stretching throws he made against USC...it might be hard to not start him vs. Bama. Particularly with MB still not being 100%.

I'm not in the camp that after one good game LSU should bench their starter (who has more experience and who, presumably, has a better grasp of the offense overall). But if a guy is red hot and playing well it is hard to take him out for someone who, by that time, will not have played in a month.

If Finley (i) went out and dominated, (ii) threw or accounted for 4 TDs, (iii) the entire offense was predicated upon him and his success rather than being put on the backs of the RBs and the o line playing up to standard, and (iv) despite a shitty o line and bad run game, Finley still managed to manufacture first downs and red zone conversions, I might begin to question whether he should be the starter. The key being that he converts those situations despite bad play around him when Myles couldn’t.

Let's see how Finley does when LSU falls behind in a game or needs to put the offense on his back. He won't see a true road environment either this season, that will have to wait until next season.

I don't see any reason you can't utilize both QB's skill sets.
Have a package for Finley. When you need some tough short yardage runs from your QB put Finley in.

We have to keep 3rd down conversions up no matter who is in there. Also Ensminger would do well to keep the USC game plan for Brennan too...

I think if Finley has a USCe performance or better against Auburn you start to consider things more an open competition once Brennan is healthy than Brennan the absolute starter right now. That being said, it could still be fools good because Auburn's defense this year certainly isn't like their defense of previous years, either. I think it's probably an above average SEC defense, in a year where SEC defenses are clearly down as a whole though too.

It seems to me they believe Brennan should be good to go for sure against Alabama in 3 weeks and still questionable for Auburn this weekend. So if Finley really shows a lot against Auburn, things could at least be interesting for the Alabama game 2 weeks later, however, I still have my doubts they be starting Finley over Brennan if Brennan is a full go by then. Fact is he just has way more knowledge of things and playing Bama is way different than playing USCe or Auburn. That's a tough spot to put a true freshman QB in. Now if Brennan struggled for a while against Bama, I think you maybe make that change and see if Finley gives you a boost offensively.

Completing passes with defenders in his face hitting him. He looked good in a clean pocket but we got no idea how he will handle pressure.

We have 6 games left. In your scenario MB is out 4-5 of those. How/why would there even be a QB controversy at that point?

Where it ranks on our problem list is irrelevant, all that matters is which QB gives us a better chance to win.

The both do, which is the point. Myles Brennan and TJ Finley have both done enough to win games. The defense hasn't held up on their end of the field.
