That's a big reason we aren't out of the woods on everyone yet. If there is someone out there with a relatively small number, say $500k or less, they can still be drafted and get their price. Because teams can go as high as 10% over their pool before losing a pick for the next year. Most teams exceed their pool, but not beyond 5%.
Thanks for all of the good info today.
Is there a reason why a team would wait until later rounds to draft a prospect like a Watson or a Hess when they plan on paying 4 times more than the $125K?
Also, Watson and Hess were the only two college prospects rated in the top 100 who were not drafted yet? Is that an indication that they were asking for too much money given their ability to return with leverage next year?
I did see that a team failing to sign a pick in rounds 1-10 loses the slot money for that pick. However, I have a hard time believing that Watson and Hess were the only two college players in the top 100 prospects making above slot demands.

Because if they're going to pay them $500, only $375 would count against their bonus pool.

Pretty much. It was a big year for draft eligible sophomores. I'm sure more were drafted, but the only ones I remember were Carlos Cortes and Ryan Rolison.

Another piece people may not know, is that bryce jordan may not be back, last i heard he was on the fence about hanging it up
Regarding a guy like Bryce who has already graduated, I assume he still gets all the benefits of a scholarship player right? It would be kind of hard for a guy without a future in baseball who's finished with school to play a season of baseball with no time to work and start a career.
Even with housing, meal plans, etc. I can see why he may just be ready to move on with life

He would still go to school. Either work on a masters degree or take a bunch of bs classes for a year

Can I just be Debby downer for a minute...
It sucks that we only have 1 lefty pitcher in this class.

That may well guarantee Kodros a spot on the roster.

It does but them dudes don't grow on trees as you know.
A decent lefty is going pro out of homeschool.
Good for bush that he got drafted. Not great for us

Agree.
We signed two JUCO lefties last offseason from Illinois and Arizona. They threw around 10 innings for us.
I was hoping we'd go after a couple louisiana natives in JUCO, one was at LSUE, the other in Mississippi. Coincidentally they both signed with Northwestern St. I don't know how the Pigott kid did this year, but I definitely would have liked Ridge Heisler over Nowak.
Full disclosure: I was very high on Taylor Petersen. I was very wrong on Taylor Petersen.

Another factor with Bryce is that he can no longer be on TOPS, it only last 4 years. He would be better off money wise to be a grad assistant if he does want to go for his masters, have his school paid for and a stipend.

Bryce was 1st Team ALL SEC in 2016 and was our best hitter in SEC, why do people want him processed?

I don’t think marceaux is a power arm.
Think he’s an upper 80s guy
R-R, 6-0/180, Destrehan, La.
College Commitment: Louisiana State
Featuring one of the more prolific breaking balls in the class, Marceaux brings a very polished delivery and repertoire to the table, especially for a prep prospect. Along with his hammer curveball he also has a very good changeup and a fastball in the low-90s. While Marceaux is only 6-foot tall the command and stuff are indicative of a strong starting pitching prospect.

Everyone likes the shiny new toy.
Dreaming on the potential of someone who hasn't let you down yet is more fun than the same ole same ole.
I don't agree with it, fwiw. I would like to see Bryce back and Reid on the team.

If the staff doesn’t want to play Reid, what is the point?

I for the record also hope bryce and reid are on the team. Good team guys. Im pretty positive everyone on here predicting they are told to leave is completely wrong

From a very reliable source, he considered transferring last year, but after he considered all angles, he would rather be on the lsu team and continue to build on his friendships with those on and off the field. He loves lsu.

Just my opinion but there are better players coming in.

Didn’t really think about it until today, but any chance Willis ends up in the outfield? Not that we would necessarily need him there, but with his build and to save his athleticism I wonder if that may be better for him in the long run (especially if he hits).
