The difference is, you know your offense is going to score points regardless. And your defensive coordinator is back with experienced players in his system, Some with two years now, especially your number one tackler. I m not saying this team is going to win the National Championship or even the SEC. But I’m betting on this team to be very fun to watch, and I do think they make the playoffs. If Brain Kelly would have retained Corey Raymond, and Blake Baker instead of acting like a dictator and cleaning house and bringing in all his own people. He makes the playoffs his second year with Jayden Daniel’s, no questions asked.

It doesn’t automatically equal NC but it does put you in a good spot to compete for it.

What makes this #1 class a sure thing over last year’s #1 class that ended up being a total bust?

Last year’s LSU portal class was very heavy on one year players. They actually worked out pretty well on defense, but Brown and Thompson did not on the offensive side. Anderson and Sharp were also busts. But let’s be honest- there was no type or amount of portal players that would have fixed the offense last year. It was going to be flawed at best (like 24) because of the poor coaching and development, especially on the OL.

Most of this year’s class has multiple years to play and most of the contributors will likely stay if we have a good season next year. All players are paid today and can move freely so they are all mercenaries in a sense. But Kiffin just proved that we have the staff and resources to bring in and hold onto players we want. It remains to be seen how we build a culture out of this, but that definitely happened this season at Ole Miss.

Lmao last years class was a total bust? You lost me there. We had an elite defense of transfers last year.

but no one else for OL in the portal

Josh Thompson- starting RG from Northwestern. He didn’t play that well, but he was still here.

We had an elite secondary. The LBs were good until Weeks went down. The DL looked good early, but ended up being pretty average to just above without Reliford.

Overall the defense was another solid improvement over the year before and they kept us in a lot of games, but they weren’t even close to Miami or Indiana. THEY were elite.

Last years class had a higher per player ranking, and there are a few teams this year that have higher per player rankings than us.

That volume hurts the per player rankings. We have to fill a roster. Only 38 players from last year remained on the team. We took 40 players.

If you look at last year's group with a higher per player rating you'll see we only took 18 kids - 0 5*, 12 4*. 5 3*. This season with 40 kids we have 3 5*, 11 4*, and 23 3*.

Last year's group finished with a 90.53 rating. If you take our top 18 this year its 92.60.

You are right. Mark cuban talked about this yesterday. He said it’s better to get guys out the portal who will fit your culture instead of someone chasing a bag. Bc if u paying 1 person may more than the next, than they will feel slighted. Won’t give there all. He said Indiana wanted older players that’s mature and willing to get better for themselves and the team. Someone chasing the highest bidder just looking out for themselves.

Indiana took more portal players than we did last season just as an FYI there.

I think their culture was just fine, and also a bit of an overblown talking point in an era where players jump around almost everywhere year over years now

Not all #1 portal classes are the same. This is the number one portal class of all time.

There are no sure things, but Lane is bringing in QBs with great talent. We have seen what he can do with a talented QB in his offense in the SEC. And now he will be at LSU. He's hungry to prove all the doubters wrong..It will seemingly be a very exciting year next year going from Sloan calling plays to Lane/Weiss calling plays with these new WRs and QBs. And the rest of the talent...

I would’ve been worried about the up and down uncertainty of having to have a massive portal haul every year until I saw how he is attacking high school recruiting. Lane has said how much talent there is in Louisiana and he just needs to capture it. Build a base in high school, keep our good players, go after the best portal players our positions of need and we will be potentially unstoppable. All that is left is JUST WIN BABY!

Well for me there is hope for next season. Hell there was hope for this past season coming into it at least year. if the OL had gelled, Nuss lit it up and we replaced our HS play caller we could have been good but alas that didnt happen. The hope for this coming season is the new OL coach and players can be a major improvement and one of these qbs can light it up. That and our defense can continue to at least maintain a level similar to last year. All that said, nothing is guaranteed, and it could be another rebuild year. I think the most reasonable take is we are at least a year away from making a serious run but this is a fan site so in short we stacked SEC fckd.

An actual competent offensive coaching staff that is really good at evaluating and developing players and knowing exactly how to utilize their biggest play makers while also excelling in knowing what every opposing defenses biggest weakness is and attacking it.. That’s it. That’s the difference in a nutshell. Lane with talent>>>>>>>>>>>>>BK with talent

Last year's class was a bust? Nope. Returning players were the problem, along with shitty coaching from the offensive coaches.

Nuss, Oline, and play calling were 90% of our problems.
