First year - showed great improvement.
Second year - won 40games
Third year - Started 13-0 before COVID
Fourht Year - Went to CWS
Top 5 Recruiting classes coming in every year.

All at F*ckng Tennesse. Dude is good, don't be dense and actually do some research.

sure I'd love Dan, but he seems happy where he's at.

Hilarious people acting like this is Tennessee's first ever trip to Omaha.

Respectfully, more than Lemonis before he got the MSU gig. Sometimes you have to project out, if it is indeed Tony.

Tenn was in the shitter baseball wise.... in just three years he made them a fricking top 8 national seed all while playing in the toughest conference in baseball and recruiting the same state as fricking VANDERBILT...that's a hell of a lot man

I just don’t think he’s the right man for the job at this time.

I could pick apart the resume of any coach in the country that would paint a picture that they may not be the right man for the job. There are no Nick Sabans or Skip Bertmans with zero risk or zero question marks on their resume. Even Corbin has concerns of only making it to Omaha 5 times in almost 20 years at Vandy. Mainieri is a national title series win from having an objectively better resume than Corbin, and everyone, myself included, was ready for Mainieri to go. O'Connor went from a national title, to two straight years of losing in the regionals, to missing the tournament two straight years, before getting hot at the end of the year this year. Godwin has never been to Omaha. McDonnell's record in Omaha is terrible. O'Sullivan wastes talent with the best of them. Jay Johnson had a great 1st year at Arizona, followed by 3 straight subpar years, before being good again this year. See how easy it is?

Todd Helton was a long-arse time ago, though. Once since then before this year?

Even these two had things in their resume you could have picked apart when hired at LSU.

Before Vitello got there Tennessee hadnt even made the NCAAT since 2005. In 2019, his 2nd season he took them to their first NCAAT appearance in almost 15 years, think about that.

He's proven he can take Tennessee to the CWS.

He will do great at LSU.

My hope is that we can end the cycle at the end of Mainieri's term here where he would show up for a great season then take a few off. The lack of energy he had at the latter part of his career reminded me of when Les stopped having the fire to run a big program with expectations.

I'd rather take a risk for Vitello (a young coach who was also a highly valuable assistant at TCU and Arkansas) who took a dumpster fire Tennessee program to Omaha within a few years rather than hiring "One of Us" Bianco who only has 1 CWS appearance in 21 years at a program with money, resources and support.

Every hire has its risks, but you could certainly do much worse than Vitello.

He's young, fiery, can recruit, and has shown that he can be a HC of a P5 school.
