The LSU offense clearly was awful and is the reason we lost, but OM racked up nearly 500 yards of offense despite 14 penalties. Their 3rd drive of the game was 18 plays.

Baker is a great DC, but his Achilles heel is running QBs. Kiffin definitely won the chess match.

This is the third year in a row that we watch our DC successfully scheme Perkins out of a game plan by constantly putting him in coverage. This is one of many reasons I still have ZERO faith in this entire coaching staff. We have an elite defense. We saw for four games how to use them. Then, suddenly we change it for three quarters and watch an inferior team literally run the same 4-5 plays over and over and get close to 500 yards.

It’s actually impressive how little some of you know about football after watching it for years.

You can’t have a spy every play. You do that and they’ll take advantage of it. The spy leaves a liability somewhere. Kind of like how rushing three should leave a liability.

You have to do different things and keep them guessing. Different spies at different times.

We didn’t continually spy Kub for Clemson. But we had a plan for how to attack him.

agreed. Perkins has to be used just like LSU used Honey Badger. there is no reason whatsoever that Perkins can't have the same impact as the HB. Can you even imagine HB only making 2 tackles in an entire game? No, me neither. LSU has to really work hard to make him that irrelevant in a critical game....but we did, and probably will again. A shame.

The spy can’t play to one side of the field. Kiffin made sure to keep Perkins in coverage most of the time and away from the play.

The defensive plan worked. They were on the field for 90+ plays and still held a great offense to 24 points. Enough with the scapegoating nonsense.

That's a moot point when you can't score more than 20 pts against an SEC team. The defense did enough to win a hard fought game on the road........it's just the offense didn't help.

Part of that was bringing pressure from all angles and different positions. But you can’t do that nearly as much vs a QB as quick as Chambliss. He burned us at least twice when we tried it.

Most of the rest of the QBs we play, even the mobile ones, are going to be more susceptible to blitzes and pressure. Reed is the one who has the most speed of the remaining QBs we play and may be difficult to pressure without losing contain.

Didn’t make sense to me, the defensive play calling seemed very vanilla in the second half. But I’m sure the defense was also completely gassed in the second half

He had 2 solo tackles or less in a game, twice in 2011.

The plays where he made big plays, West Weeks was spying him. What a terrible game plan.

I realize many of you won't understand this, but there isn't a magic playcall or gameplan that makes LSU win every game.

The other team/players are allowed to try too.

So, let everyone get a chance to play, like a participation trophy? Or, a middle school team where everyone gets a chance to play?

C'mon Man.

In hindsight, what should have happened was we move to a traditional nickel with Spears in Perk's spot and have Perk move down to LB and take 33's spot and take spy responsibilities.
The fact that didnt happen at halftime is kinda troubling.

Yeah, I think you need to take away a team's strengths. For OM it's timely passing and then Chambliss scrambling if the initial reads are covered. If you force them into a power running game by running a nickel, you may give up some yardage, but LSU's defense is stout enough to get stops. In the nickel with a roaming Perkins, the potential for him and 40 to make TFL and get sacks is much higher than Perkins getting schemed into coverage. It was frustrating to watch Perkins walk out into coverage so often because as soon as OM saw that, Chambliss knew he could make quick reads and rely on the QB keep if his initial reads weren't coming open.

Defense still played well enough to win if the offense could've done a little more!

Oh well, moving on to SCe.

I find it interesting that even with a running QB - or maybe more accurately a QB that can run - the Cocks average fewer rushing yards a game than us.
