re: What are your thoughts on why LSU has struggled and continues to struggle at safety.

Ok. Say we had 55 for the sake of argument… care to elaborate on how many were true freshmen, walk-ons, etc.?
When you have numbers that low, things you don’t have:
- Senior leadership/experience at key positions
- High level of talent across the board, meaning heavy weaknesses
- Depth. At all. Much less QUALITY depth.
- The ability to run more than basic schemes on both sides of the ball due to the talent and depth issues
- The ability to endure players transferring out without getting worse off in depth
So please, do explain how you can have any semblance of success as a coach when you literally don’t have the resources to succeed from the very start.
You guys all are the same. “It’s LSU, we should just be winning!”
shite ain’t that easy, people. You can’t compete using walk-ons and sub-par talent in the SEC. That’s a fact. What Kelly has done in the transfer portal to shore up weaknesses on the team has been remarkable when you take into account the available talent at our positions of need over the last three years.
Now he has a good base to sell to recruits. We have one of the best coaching staffs top-to-bottom in college football, two recent Heisman winners, and available positions to market to incoming HS recruits as being able to be taken immediately.
Quit being emotional over football. It ruins your ability to attain, process, and internalize football knowledge. (Not an attack at just you…)

We hired two clowns that didn’t belong at the sec level and everyone knew it.

This can’t be said enough. He’s done a tremendous job. I know I’ll be called a sunshine pumper and all that but Scott Woodward makes great hires - Jay Johnson, Kim Mulkey, Will Wade (yeah scandal I get it but helluva coach undisputed). Brian Kelly turns programs around. He’s done it over and over. I feel BK will win an NC here, but even if he doesn’t LSU will be much better than when he found it.

This post should be highlighted for sure.

Kelly’s defense is shite, that’s why. I know fans are going to say we changed coordinators but the defense hasn’t changed, Baker is just better at calling Kelly’s D than House was. How many coordinators will we burn through until pressure is put on the HC to give guys autonomy?

I’m not emotional. I’m very rational concerning BK.
Back to the subject.
LSU had a top 10 talented team in 2022. The cupboard that O left behind wasn’t bare. One magical night against Bama was a big win, but BK lost again to aTm the next week. It’s what BK does. He never wins the must-win games.
BK has a 30 year history of being a good coach. To think that, in his mid 60s, he will just “learn” to win the must-win games is foolish. Especially when you know that his current job is the hardest one he’s ever had.

Limited safeties are exposed by poor play up the middle. Weak DTs limit LBs. Limited LBs force safeties to have to play in the box. Safeties in the box get exposed in coverage.
Shore up your interior with people who can actually hold the line or get penetration, and your linebackers will be able to flow to the ball better and cutback lanes will be shut down. Free up your safeties to be pass first and their play improves. This lets the CBs play closer to the line in press and help more on outside runs.

All I know is when they talk about players anymore on these playoff teams they’ve been to 2 or 3 schools. I think we just got behind on NIL and are trying to catch up.

Another shitty qb thread. The other 20 threads on it weren't enough for ya?

A couple of thoughts here:
- some of our defensive coaches are good recruiters, but not very good at coaching players. This needs to change, especially with DBS.
- it seems like we are recruiting athletes, and not football players who happen to be great athletes. If you don't know what this means, then you probably have not played organized football. Our safeties have absolutely no football instinct, and are constantly out of position or run themselves out of plays.
- our scheme could be flawed, because the safeties often looked confused and unsure.

Bro, you’re hopeless.
If you think that 2022 team was supremely talented in any shape, form, or fashion in regards to defense then I can’t help you.
The defense was the side of the ball most heavily hit by those roster losses.
I’m done wasting time here though. You can’t see past your anger with BK to do a simple root cause analysis.

I wish we could have a pinned thread for referencing exactly how bare the cupboard was for Brian Kelly when he took over the roster.
I do, too. So I wouldn’t have to read this tired excuse for the remaining 7 years of CBK’s contract.
If it was in a pinned thread, I could just go there to read that Brian Kelly is fine and just needs more YEARS to recover from Ed Orgeron.
Ya know … if dumbass shrimp boat Orgeron could “flip the script” when he got HC job at LSU, why can’t Brian Kelly figure out how to do it?

Burn was lower rated recruit
Not arguing with your overall point but Burns was a 4* top 300 player when he went to UGA per his 247 profile.

Pretty weak safety classes in LA going back to before kelly Texas and A&M throwing money at everything that moves.

It’s been said on the thread a lot but it’s a mixture of:
1. BK’s terrible first defensive staff
&
2. Mid-range in state talent
Hopefully we get Cooley and throw the bag at whatever safeties enter in the spring portal. Jake Olsen is still a big ? for me. I think Spears has all the tools to be great but we’ll see if Olsen can develop him

They aren't even running the same d or plays. What???
This is some dumb shite even from you.
