Georgia is a tremendous program but they had a way easier path to the playoffs than us every single year in the past. They didnt have to deal with Bama every year. Look at what the east was. Vandy, S Carolina, Missouri, and Kentucky were all guaranteed wins every year. Tenn and Florida were all guaranteed much of that time as well. They had a game every year against GT when GT was dog shite. Then they got the benefit of never having their west opponent be Bama. Their only losses in their playoff years were to Western opponents.

I don't think we'll ever reach that level of consistency again.

There was a sweet spot in there where LSU was recruiting really well and keeping a lot of Louisiana kids, it helped that Saban hadn't really started rolling at Alabama.

Now we have Texas, Texas A&M, and other schools outbidding us, and we can't stack talent like we used to.

This leads to LSU having lower end top 10 talent and only putting together a really good team every 5 years or so.

You simply cant compare the few back to back years where we won wilh Miles. Saban had 5 losses and 3 losses bracketing 2003. O had a good run up to 2019.

But I dont think any program will see year to year dominance, I dont think you can depend on HS recruiting no matter who you are.

There are so many factors that go into that prior success. Our defenses back then were absolutely dominant, like Bama’s, but rule changes have basically eliminated the dominant, punishing style, defenses of the past. We split 50/50 zone and man to man when back then it was heavily man to man. Everything today revolves around the QB and timing a great QB with the pieces around him. We won championships with Mauck and Flynn. People would be losing their minds if either of those two were starting based on their stats. Burrow had 8 other NFL players on that offense and they were mostly 4th and 5th year guys, except for Chase I believe. Also, LA recruiting is not putting out as many highly rated big uglies like we used to which was the foundation of those dominant teams. I really believe any coach that can sustain 9 wins each year with an 8 game SEC schedule is successful. The best way to do that is to have a lot of 21, 22, and 23 year old grown arse men on the field, especially on the lines. Build a program that develops players and you will see sustained success.

Saban? Nope.

All I want is a coach that doesn’t say, “We have the most talented team ‘Ive ever coached,” in preseason. Then 6 games into a 12-game season he says, “we have a lot of things that we need to work on”.

And we are 2.5 pt dog to Vandy???!! They must be wearing snow parkas in hell right now.

Yes, the LSU football team should have standards as high as Ohio State, Alabama, Georgia year in and year out. If a head coach can not reach these standards in five years then they and their staff should be replaced.
The standards should be very high but not unreasonable or unattainable.
We should desire success for both the HC, his staff and our, LSU football players.

I was trying to keep our standards realistic and you go off into fantasyland.
Anybody that purchases anything from AllevaAramark inside PIMger Stadium are really living in Fantasy Land if they think anything will ever be fixed.

Bring a bag of peanuts and a bottle of water with you If you can't survive longer that 3-4 hours without food, maybe stay at home to satiate your food addiction.

Focus on the LSU Tigers and yell loudly for them. (Not obsessing on AllevaAramark garbage)

BTW, If I'm the AD, I'm selling water, soft/sports drinks and peanuts. That's It! It's a fricking football game, not a restaurant.

Try to make the playoffs 1/3 to 1/2 of the time and seriously compete for a national championship at least once a decade. Don’t think that’s too crazy for LSU.

How about consistency of being a playoff contender and have the ability to have complimentary units on the team in the same year? A solid DL and OL year in and year out. And no 10 year contract with fully guaranteed buyout!

when I still lived in Louisiana, I would leave my house around 6:30-7:00am and not get home until around 2:00am Sunday for a typical night game.

I have to eat at some point during that stretch.

How about a coach that can field an offense with a pulse that’s not in the bottom half of college football. Also it would be nice when we get a decent offense our defense is also not terrible. So an actual complete team that’s decent on both sides of the ball. For a cool 10 million a year Kelly hasn’t been able to manage that.

10-2 or better most years, or bust. It's not as big of an ask as some here think. We have the resources to do it. We have the players and most coaches and staff needed. We just don't have the head coach.

All that said, I hope BK finds a horseshoe up his arse and we win a championship this year.

Saban will return and retire a Tiger. Have to do it this year tho.
Saban has figured out what Kelly hasn’t. This era of college football is extremely difficult and has passed him by. He left at the right time. Kelly doesn’t have what it takes to put together a complete team in this shifting landscape.
