I'm pretty sure Key left on his own for the spring (was not dismissed by LSU) and fortunately his grades were good enough that he was still eligible despite being out of school a whole semester.
My guess is the games he missed early in the season and the A&M game year before may have been partly suspension related even though he wasn't healthy anyway.
Sounds like he went to drug rehab possibly.

Weed isn't the problem. Sounds like he has an addictive personality and some other underlying mental things to work out that caused him to smoke like he did. Good he worked on figuring that out at a young age. They have people in their 60s and 70s on this board that don't want to confront theirs, rather it be with weed, booze, or whatever it is. Good job Arden!

Whether you agree with it or not is not the issue. Rules were in place and he chose to put himself above those. Dude was selfish.

yeah, you should follow the rules. but did you ever hear of prohibition? it was a stupid law. Key is responsible for being stupid, but we need to get rid of stupid rules for the future.
it's insanity, just as prohibition was insanity.

If the SEC had mandatory drug testing for all athletes there would be a lot more suspended.
There is no SEC comprehensive drug program right now. Plus, what Bama is doing probably better than anyone is covering it up and athletes are trying to game the system.
If you want rec drugs and ped's out of college game, the drug testing program needs a complete overhaul to where it's equitable for all schools.

That’s fine. I won’t disagree on that. Alabama gets away with a lot of bullshite. It isn’t fair and something should be done about the Alabama bias in the SEC.
Yet the fact remains that he wouldn’t have had to sit out if he chose to commit to his team and his teammates. The drug testing policy doesn’t make him any less selfish. He knew the rules and the risks and chose to put himself above them.

The issue isn't the weed use, it is the lack of self discipline. Not smoking isn't hard. I smoked every night in college. Then I graduated and took a great job, but I get randomly drug tested. Does it suck not being able to smoke? Sometimes. But a little green sure isn't worth losing my career.

This is pure speculation on my part, but Coach O probably gave him a simple choice: Go home and get clean or you're off the team.
I don't necessarily think players should be disciplined for weed, but if you're going to do it, this is the way you do it. Kudos to Coach O for handling this privately and protecting a young player's reputation (at least for the time being).

I was Literally asked why it’s a dumb rule.
Also, it’s fricking a fricking dumb rule because The owners and colleges are hurting themselves by not allowing this players to play for some harmless activity.

Thank God it wasn't beer!!!

I dont smoke, so I'm truly ok with the rule. But first and foremost...it was a rule in place and he should have followed it....period. Second, Its not a dumb rule, if its illegal in Louisiana. Why would LSU allow illegal activity by rule?
PS - Arden made mistakes. Hopefully he can overcome.

I always figured it was cocaine because he wanted to be like Lawrence Taylor
Posted on 4/20/18 at 12:15 pm to SammyTiger
Another fact is that Arden was not 21 when he was smoking therefore making him illegal anyway.
But the issue with Arden is he definitely had a serious problem that caused his family to get involved and the NFL scouts to say that he needs to stop smoking. Its not a dumb rule, especially if an NFL scout will avoid you because you smoke weed. Would you want a pothead on your team, or would you hire someone that has no control over his addiction, with your money on the line? Heck no!!!!!

It’s weed. It should be like a 1 game suspension if anything.
It's entirely possible that he was caught several times much like the Tyrann situation.

If it’s up to just LSU to test for it, were fricking retarded for testing for weed. You don’t have to actively go looking for something just because it’s illegal. I was Never drug tested at LSU as a student.
If a player gets arrested sure. But don’t go looking for trouble.
I know This probably isn’t LSUs call.
Also it’s. Dumb rule for the NFL to test for it too.
Why frick up your own product?

If he plays well YES!
You wouldn’t want Josh Gordon on your team if they didn’t test for weed?

Honestly, coming back waaay out of shape and waaay overweight was probably more detrimental than the absence itself.
