This makes O look like a hypocrite all because he brought this guy here with him. He kicked guys like Savion Smith off for the same thing.

Exactly, theres a difference between people who like it and do it occasionally or do it to unwind..... and people who are highly addicted and have no self-control to the point that they break rules for their "precious". (Insert picture of Gollum).

You test positive whether it’s negatively affecting your life or not.

I'm just curious who will get the blame. It certainly wasn't Key.

Honestly, I think it should be legal, but I also wouldnt want to hire someone who has a drug problem. And Arden Key has/had a drug problem. Rule or no rules, legal or not, NFL teams still would be hesitant to hire an addicted player.

Think you are missing the message - so you would slap a wrist & let him continue down the wrong path - one lead to the next step for far to many youngsters - for many, the coaching staff are their parents - if discipline not learned before they don a Tiger jersey, the staff has to make some difficult decisions - team or the players well being - if he is my kid, the player comes first ... I hope

So, how do the owners know if the player is going to be a problem or not. All they have is the test. Big risk.

All the more reason to have enough self control to not smoke, while your future is on the line. If you dont have enough self control and the drug has that much control over you...then it doesnt matter about the sustance policies or laws, you are and will be a problem because you lost control to a bag of weed. Dont smoke it and dont test positive. Its simple for someone who is not addicted. Very complicated for Arden and the addicted.

I seriously doubt this is a simple case of a player smoking weed. Lots of football players and other students smoke some weed without it impacting their lives. It’s been that way since the sixties at most universities.

When weed does have a really big impact it’s typically for one of two reasons. One is that the person has some other personality dusorder, such as with Ricky Williams.

The other is that they are using synthetic weed, which is very different in its addictive nature and impact it has, mostly on the younger generation that smoke it.

If everyone that smoked weed in the seventies at LSU when I was there had to take a semester off to get their head straight, the classrooms would all have been half empty.

If I were an NFL team drafting a player and learned that the player was a casual marijuana user, it would have little impact on my evaluation. If I was looking at a player that missed Spring pracitice due to weed, I would be digging a lot deeper to see if there was a personality disorder involved or something more than basic weed.

I have no idea what Key’s issues were (are?). I doubt it’s as simple as him smoking pot.

In the draft you can ask the coaches about work ethics, you interview the kid and see how he performs

Once you’ve actually employed them you should be able to tell if their work is being effected by their work performance. shite it’s not like they had any problems giving Brett Fabre Vicodin as long as he was slinging TDs.

You’re taking a risk on players no matter what. There are a million reasons a player may not work out. Some people stop giving a shite once they get paid and have money and time to spend.

paper , I tend to agree with you. I just cant get past the fact that he chose to smoke weed, knowing it was against the rules. No self control. His need for weed was strong.

again you are right, but weed just adds one more issue to the mix. With all the potential concerns, weed doesnt make him a more valuable draft pic.

Brett already had the job, and was proven. Key is not proven in the NFL yet. But I get your point.

And Brett's only problem was not slinging footballs, it was slingin wanker pics all over cyberspace.

What I said last week but I was told he could also have a drinking problem.

Again, if you think it's weed, it's probably weed

He was in top form, then goes into rehab, then comes out of rehab out of shape and has trouble getting back into top form. What good did it do him?

If he was as ala-frickING-bama he would not have had to sit out at all. this shite pisses me off! they get away with it but we suspend our best defensive player for an entire spring for it.

This is so stupid. He was not suspended. He left the team to go to rehab on his own. If you morons would read the story he had a habitual problem he could not stop...

There not used to following rules. They are used to being pampered and catered to because they can play and they take that attitude as they can do what they want when they want without repercussions. Arden Key isn’t the first player to fall into this category and sadly will not be the last. I wish the young man good luck, hope he can turn this negativity around.

I don’t have any sympathy for someone who has all the talent to make millions of dollars but decides to piss it away by making stupid decisions.

Dude just needed to not smoke a boatload of weed for a few months and would have made megabucks to buy all the best weed he could imagine for the rest of his life. So stupid. I hope he can get it together because he has great talent when focused.
