re: We can all agree that increasing Tiger Stadium capacity to over 100K was dumb, right?

Giving away a marquee OOC matchup to a neutral site EVERY SEASON is also an issue.
The expansions have come at the cost of the average fan. The baw from down the bayou who would come up for every home game, tailgate all day and then scream his drunk arse off until all zeroes has been priced out.
The corporate wine and cheese crowd that replaced him either doesn't show up, or doesn't stay past the 3rd because traffic will be a shitshow. The baw would stagger back to his tailgate, fire the grill back up and stay for hours after the game.

The whole point of the expansion was never about increasing capacity to over 100k, it was built to add more suites and club seating and making the visitor section in the end zone smaller moving them to the top of the expansion.
This is the correct answer. The expansions had to occur to draw in the corporate dollars for the premium seating locations and to move visitors to the upper deck areas. Amenities in those sections are good. As for the left behind areas down in the original stadium well those for the most part have been ignored. Restrooms and concessions / concessions access in many areas of tiger stadium are egregiously inefficient.

When it was announced, the stadium was filling up. That was just after the 2011 season and attendance was at an all-time high I believe. By the time it started, there were signs that perhaps it was a mistake. 2018/2019 may have masked it a bit then POST COVID made it obvious the expansion may have negatively impacted the TS experience.
My hope is they take the opportunity now to renovate to provide better seating with chairbacks like in the lower portion of the uppers. That would probably decrease the seating capacity to a number that is more reasonable. Of course, they would probably try to raise ticket prices again.

I think it would be awesome to take the upper decks and remake them with premium seating and some more box seating, and some awesome screens going the distant of the field! Could really be creative with the fan experience. Boxes would make up the revenue for any lost seats.

Agree with you 100% the loudest and continuous cheering for a game that I've ever been to at LSU was my freshman year 1979 against Southern Cal it was a roar walking up to the stadium And the cheering continued all the way through the end of the game even though we lost and I'm pretty sure seating capacity at that time was right at about 79000 that's the best tiger stadium has ever been

But most of all it really has taken a bite out of the crowd and Roar of TS.
It’s funny because everyone on here was complaining about empty seats when people actually at the game said how loud it was lol. Including Brian Kelly who said they had to move to hand signals because they couldn’t hear.

The mass exodus at halftime was disgusting.

Chop them both in half at the chair back

Paid attendance according to ESPN = 102,231
If tickets are being sold, corporate or otherwise, does LSU really care if actual attendance is closer to 90K than 100K?

I have some awesome beachfront property in South Dakota to show you.
Then why even add the Stadium Club seating in the south endzone. They could have just stacked in more seats.
LSU didn't just decide on a random Tuesday in 2008 to expand to 100k. The "race" at the time was to add more luxury suites/seating. That wasn't just at LSU, but nationwide. I'm not saying there wasn't some ego in expanding to 100k. But the NUMBER ONE priority was creating more and more luxury seating.
Whether or not the expansion was" dumb" really depends upon how much revenue LSU is generating from the luxury seating. The upper deck seating is almost looked upon as lagniappe. If they can fill it, great! If not, no big deal as long as the luxury seating money keeps rolling in at ever increasing rates.

The number one factor is not TV. Its the changing of society. Gone are the blue collar die-hards that tailgated all day and then went to the game. They are slowly ageing/dying out with no one to take their place. To replace them are corporate seats and white collar wannabes that would rather stay at home/leave early if its too hot/too cold/too packed/too inconvenienced. The problems LSU has created over the years due to keeping on up with the Joneses has created this mess.
#1 was charging for tailgating. I first saw the decline in attendance when they started charging for tailgating. IDK if it was the hassle or the constant nickel and diming but I am guessing a lot of the people that tailgated all day and then stayed for the whole game got tired of fighting. They decided to stay home. I understand the principle behind it but I think the execution was off.
#2 was the neutral games being played instead of home and homes. You only get 6-7 home games a year and at least 2-3 are going to be rent-a-wins. The other is going to be a crappy Miss St or Vandy. Paying that much for season tickets to 3 good games a year is just not worth it to some people.
#3 was Covid/BLM. So many people that had season tickets for years gave up their seats due to the 2021 vaccination/testing fiasco and the Social Justice infatuation LSU had. I don't think these people will ever come back.
I have seen many more families this year with young kids coming to games. I think this is a good thing for the future due to increasing fan attendance but these people leave at half time or end of third quarter because it is getting close to bed time.
Here are some things LSU can do to help increase attendance and keep people in their seats:
#1 Bring back people walking around selling concessions
#2 Fix the internet/data/cell phone issues. Its 2023 we should be able to check scores/send messages.
#3 Stop playing music/announcements during TV time outs and bt quarters. Let the band play.
#4 Check-in system via GPS for season ticket holders at end of game. Give-aways/extra priority points for fans who stay the whole game.
#5 More restrooms/concessions. Get people in and out of line and back in their seats.
#6 Find a way to limit TV timeouts. They have shortened games but somehow they have just pumped in more commercials to fill the time.
#7 Schedule needs to be released in advance. No more finding out a week or two before what time the game will be.
#8 Keep the rivalries going>no reason we shouldn't be playing Auburn and Miss St every year.
#9 Decrease attendance: seats are too small for the average person in LA. Its just not comfortable.
I have liked some things they have done (allowing water bottles up to 1L).

Not saying it's you saying this, but this looks like a baseball thread.
Everyone cannot wait to build a bigger stadium for the sake of building one. Then we'll see threads like this popping up. Everyone bitched that Tiger Stadium was behind, so they played catch up. More suites, more experience, etc. Now look.

Been going to games since the late 60's. Most of the games I attended were in the 60's, 70's, 80's and 90's. I have only been to one game in the 2000's and it was against number one Alabama. More doesn't mean better. Even though the crowd was 20,000 less than now, it was better, believe me. Yea the bathrooms were crap as well as the shitty concessions which looks like hasn't improved a whole lot over the years. And hardly anybody left before the game was over. If they did was to beat the traffic or have a drink at the tailgate because the game was over, either winning or losing.

The 80k seat tiger stadium is where the legend was made.
Not the way it is now.
