We beat the number 1 team in the nation and still get screwed

We were number 2 in the nation in Gym, beat the number 1 team (OU) and yet we dropped from number 2 to number 3, because they changed the ranking system after the meet to NQR (average of top 3 home scores and top 3 away). Gymnastics in their scoring system and rankings makes no sense!

Do.
It.
Every.
Year.
Only reason they don't keep that system the whole year is there aren't enough scores to make it work before then.
Just make it to Ft. Worth and everything else takes care of itself.

If they stayed consistent with overall average, which is what they use for the first half of the season for the whole year, we would be the number 1 team in America. The reason is that the judges favor the favorites and judge underdogs more harshly. If we go into Natty's ranked #1 the judges will think "LSU is the best team I must score them higher" like they do OU.

It's not that serious. You know how football has the AP and Coaches Poll all year then in like week 10 we get the first rankings that actually matter?

Having to count a 196.6 at Arkansas as one of our scores is seriously hurting our score. If we are able to score around a 197.5 or above friday we should be easily into the #2 spot.

We didn't have Bryant at the beginning of the year. She is starting to get back to her awesomeness and our scores are getting better overall.

Change what? NQS has been used this way for a decade.
Since you apparently don’t normally watch gym I’ll compare it to something you probably do watch. In college football they use poll rankings for teams for most of the year. But once the playoff committee releases their playoff rankings at the beginning of November then that’s the one everyone starts using.
It’s the same for NQS.

Jay said in his presser that it is a product of Covid when teams had to forfeit meets and the powers that be didn't want a team to have to carry a zero in their rank. Overall, yearly average is the most fair way to rank teams.

It is okay. When the Arkansas score falls off, we'll jump right back up.
Off topic, but why does KJ consistently score a 9.85 on her vault? Anyone thst would know, does she just have a low start value?

With a 198 against KY we’d move to 197.7 average NQS right next to OU.
A 197.5 moves us to 197.6 which should put us back in 2nd place
KJ’S routine has a max value of 9.95 but she’s also been underscored IMHO
