Verge landed the white whale with Lane. I trust him to nail the MBB hire.

As we saw with woolsworth. Basketball didn't break him, football did. BUT basketball can definitely be a black eye on the resume.

Honestly, do you feel any personal impact whatsoever of the revenue that the men’s basketball team brings in or doesn’t bring in? Seems like LSU is doing just fine financially.
Sure, I hope they do well and get the right guy in place, but let’s not act like anything is at stake for Verge if anyone he hires in the future for mbb falls flat

Seems like in the Jordy Cullota interview, Verge's tune has currently changed regarding his stance

But the Baron makes more money than the Crown Prince- 10x as much when the Baron is winning.
You do understand that money is everything, everything to College sports. Baseball Nattys are great and Yes we are the standard. But a MBB tournament run pays bills.

quote:I think Verge did an excellent job in getting the guy that the vast majority of the fan base and insiders thought was the best person for the job. With that said, no games have been played yet. Things can change fast and no sports jobs are for life. I hope Verge has nothing but success, but it's a results business in the end and you have to have coaches that win and continue to win year after year.
Verge earned a lifetime contract with that football hire.
When the BK hire was announced on here, I think it had like 500+ upvotes to like 50 downvotes. The majority of the fan base thought it was a really good hire. And we started off looking great, but then years 2, 3 and 4 happened. I'm way more excited about Lane being here, but the point is, you never know.

If we are going to participate in the sport I would like us to at least be competitive. That’s about how much most of us care about basketball. Look how many terrible coaches we’ve held on to and decent coaches we’ve let go. Nobody really cares all that much about basketball and it certainly won’t make or break Verge.

Terrible take. I hope he chooses to do nothing and addresses it when the buyout is much less or nothing

Care to elaborate or provide a link?

The whole football-is-king argument is fine for you and others to have, but it’s purely opinion.
It doesn’t mean that basketball can’t succeed. It doesn’t mean that the department can’t take it very seriously.
Basketballl should be heavily supported despite who is so-called king.
I bet three years ago everyone in Indiana believed basketball was king. There’s enough in the state and the surrounding area for both sports to be very successful—rank them as you wish but that’s all subjective

He was provided a dump truck full of money to lure Kiffen away from loserville Ole Miss. He succeeded, but let’s be honest…..you or I could have accomplished that, given the circumstances. This basketball hire won’t be nearly as easy.

Football was easy, Hire the most popular candidate and give him unlimited NIL funds...... 99% of the Rant-tards on this board could have made that hire.
Identifying the candidate was easy….. actually pulling off the hire was anything but that… post less.

Just FIRE MM ALREADY!
Its basketball. No need to fire him before season is over. Fire him after LSU's season is over.
Most likely candidates will have their teams in the Big Dance, so the timing will be just fine.

You are in LALA land. MBB will not make or break him. Put the money in football, baseball, and women’s basketball. They are making the LSU brand huge!
