I was there; triple overtime. All LSU's starters fouled out by the end. We just wanted it worse than Kentucky. It was the first real big win for Dale Brown.

15 minutes from Floyd Bailey! Wow!
Floyd had a huge put-back dunk that pretty much sealed it. Duder could hop!

Nope. He came in with Rudy in 76-77 season. Was academically ineligible the next year and redshirted which is why he played through the 1981 Final Four season.

The Astronaut was in full orbit 14 points and 17 rebounds.
Walter Campbell could have been an outstanding player but bad knees short circuited his career.
Floyd Bailey and Jordy Hultberg were starters in their early careers then better players were signed and they became quality backups.

As was I. Was that the last year of the Court Jesters or the following? As soon as the popularity soared, Stephen Deitzel booted us to use the basketball band as a perk.
Amazing game-totally electric, and the following year was our first Final Four run (the year we should have won it all)

I don't remember Floyd being a starter. Seemed like he was always the last player on the bench, and if we were winninng, we would start yelling "We want Floyd". Maybe it was someone else, memory is getting fuzzy lol.

I believe Floyd started his first season or two before Macklin and Cook arrived. He may have also has some injuries which curtailed his career. He did become the fan's choice the last two years.

I was at that game, one of the greatest LSU sporting experiences(any sport,) that I've ever been to, the place was electric that night, the team was not to be denied, and the roof was absolutely coming of of the place

And yet, the Tigers did not make the NCAAs. Kentucky and 19-8 Bama got the two spots allotted to the SEC.

Yes, Floyd had injuries and by that time came off the bench, almost playing on one leg; his dunk was electrifying. I was fortunate enough to be there as a student and remember us crashing over and through the press tables to rush the court at games end.

We did not have the medical advances of today so probably had full knee surgery instead of a scope and never got fully recovered.
Walter Campbell was another great recruit in 1976 from Florida who had knee problems and never really had a career. Believe he left after two years.

Listened to it on the radio while working the concession stand at Crowley High School during a high school playoff game as a 7 year old. Fans kept checking in with me on the score. Nobody expected LSU to win but me. Everybody was happy that day.

I can't remember. I was in it from '75 - '78. I think they may have changed the whole thing to mostly brass in '79. I played sax in the band and then basketball in the dungeon after the affairs upstairs. Great times and memories!

ut next year's game versus Alabama where we won the SEC Title for the first time in 25 years was MUCH bigger in the grand scheme of LSU MBB history, imo.
Wasn't the Kentucky OT win the game where the OT was mostly played by freshmen (Macklin, Martin, Cook, Scales etc), and you suddenly realized we had something special in the works? That was before the early entry era, and we were going to have these guys for the next few seasons.

The students need to be moved back to court side.
Plenty of available seats go for it.

That was a superb game and the Assembly Center, as well as the spillover game watch area underneath the court, were PACKED!

The last guy was "Disco D", Duane Dearmond, a walk-on that earned a 4 year scholarship. When the game was out of reach, the crowd would chant "Disco, Disco, Disco".
