I read on Dandy Don's blog that this year's classic will be the last. Does anyone know why LSU isn't going to continue this game to honor Wally?

It could have do to with the family and not LSU. But no, I don’t know the reason if this is true.

Probably likely to do with not having access to Zephyr field anymore and LSU not wanting to split any revenue.

It is 100% true, and I did hear it was the family's decision

Heard the family decided this year would be a good year to end it. It is the 20th year.

Talked to Mr Wally last week. Its a family decision but look for it to continue but in a different way

I think the foundation was having issues getting the money after COVID and the field they normally played at is no longer available

I don't know why we wouldn't invite 3 other LA teams or even 3 out of state teams to Zephyr Field every year for a weekend round robin and call it the Wally Pontiff Classic. It'd be nice to have in addition to the Shriners, etc. Those parking lots would be full of tailgating all weekend long.

Agreed, that would be a solid idea

Proceeds should be donated by bothe teams to local charity anyway. I for some reason thought they were.

The family is the organizer of the event. Probably tired of negotiating with Zephyr Field management. I'm not sure but I think LSU just played the game with no proceeds in honor of Wally, Jr. I wouldn't think LSU would quit the tradition as they play exhibitions at the front of the season.

Zephyr Field is no longer set up for baseball.

20 years is a good run and what made it different / nice was the fact it was in a different environment.

Just having it as a random mid-week at the Box isn't anything special.

Hopefully they can do something different in the future.

It is now a HS football and NO Gold Rugby stadium. Configured differently.

Seems like we could meet USM or Florida St at the minor league park in Biloxi. Texas or TCU somewhere in Houston.

But I’m guessing the Pontiff’s want to play the game in New Orleans.

They no longer have a crew maintaining a baseball field for one game a year. It’s set up for rugby
