If OU loses tonight I believe VT will move up big and then leapfrog to #2 after winning the ACC Championship.

no, but they will move up in the computers if for no other reason than by default.

VT will need 1 of 2 scenarios to happen. They either need Auburn to beat Bama or the voters to put them in to avoid a rematch. We saw LSU jump from #7 to #2 in 2007. The voters can put whoever they want in if it's close. With Bama sitting at home, if VT wins the ACC Championship by 40, the voters might do some crazy shite.
