(Update Post 19) Prayers needed for a good pup and her family

Our golden girl, Lucy, is 10 years old and is the most gentle and loving creature God has ever put on this planet. She is an absolute angel for our six and four year old boys and they absolutely adore her. My wife and I had been dating for about a year when we got her. She is my first dog. This is so hard for me to do and I am ugly crying in my office right now.
Lucy quit eating a few days ago and yesterday refused any and all food including her favorite items. I took her to a vet specialist and they are going to do an ultrasound to see if its cancer. She had a mast cell tumor when she was four and we did chemotherapy at Auburn Vet School. It was several thousand dollars and she was only four so we knew we had to try it. It worked and she made it to ten years. We decided that if its cancer we can't do that again and will have to say goodbye.
We took her bed and her favorite toys to her yesterday and our boys got to pet and love on her. I knew I was saying goodbye then and I think my wife realized it when she saw me cry.
Please pray for my family because I don't know yet if they will get to say goodbye to her. This is going to devastate my kids and my wife and I pray that they can find the comfort in the great memories we have of her and that is going across the Rainbow Bridge to play with other good pups, chasing squirrels and rabbits and waiting for us.

It's truly a shame we don't get more time with dogs. They are a true gift from God. Do try to be there with her when the end comes.

Beautiful dog. We never get enough time with them. I look forward to when we'll see them again on the other side where cancer and loss doesn't exist. Praying for you buddy.

Prayers to you and the family. My first dog is getting up there in age and I dread the day I am in your shoes.
Take some solace in knowing you & your wife gave that dog a helluva life filled with love. It doesn’t make it easier, but they’ll be there waiting to see you again on the other side. I’m sorry for your loss brother.

Been there with my last 2 goldens. They are gifts from God. Time... it'll take time. Shower her with love and don't leave her side. Let your face be the last one she sees. I feel for you.

It is the hardest thing to do, especially knowing that it is in their best interest. I had to say gooodbye to my girl last month. She was with us 16 years and started having kidney failure.

unfortunately one part of the bargain we make with golden retrievers is cancer. We lost Rusty at age 9 to Hemangiosarcoma; I’ve seen stats where something like 60% of goldens get cancer at some point.
that doesn’t help you but you have my sympathies. Goldens are worth the eventual heartache which is nothing compared to the love and joy they bring while they are here

We have a 9 year old golden who is thankfully healthy as of now, but I'm about to have a stem cell transplant, and I'm going to have to stay away from him for 100 days. That's going to be tough.

We are dealing with a similar issue. Our 15-year-old mutt has pretty much stopped eating. We have been hand feeding her a bit of food. We have an appointment on Wednesday to talk to our vet about end of life.
Always hard to lose a four-legged member of the family but it is our job to give them a great life and a good death with dignity.

Praying. Please keep us posted. 10 years for a Golden is really good, but never long enough for us. My dog just passed her 2 year diagnosis with mast cell, she is 11.

I’ve got a half poodle, 1/4 shitzu and 1/4 golden retriever. Best dog I’ve ever had.
He’s been with us since my daughter was 2 (10 now) and they are the most patient dogs. Great kid dogs.

No doubt it’s a brutal situation, but remember you’re the head of the household and your wife and kids look to you for guidance. So be strong and have a plan. When these threads pop up, I always chime in for in-home euthanasia. It can be pricey, although some vets don’t charge a thing. But you don’t have to drag her to the office. It’s done right there on her favorite spot, they never know a thing. God bless you brother!

Im really sorry man. I went through this same scenario 2 weeks ago with my first yellow lab. Still beat up about it. They’re not just dogs they are part of the family. But I know there’s gonna be a day where I think of them and smile and not be upset.

I had a Lucy dog too, and she was the best damn dog I have ever had. I have not had it in me to get another. She passed three years ago.

Update:
Thank you all for the kind words and prayers. My wife just got a call from the dr and they found cancer on the scan. We are going to take our boys to see her later this afternoon and my MIL will take them home while my wife and I help Lucy cross the rainbow bridge.
My wife has already found a breeder that is a couple of hours away and several friends and neighbors have used them. I'm tempted to get two puppies.
