Grain of salt. Very large grain of salt. Let’s hope not.

private equity screws up pretty much everything it touches for its customers, so yes hopefully this is untrue.

Are we supposed to trust a media source named after an irritated a-hole?

Private Equity's whole purpose isn't to do anything for any customer

Its to squeeze every single dollar it can out of something, even if it means (and it somehow always does with PE), dismantling it and selling it for parts

Every program will have to do this. Tried telling you guys this when NIL passed, CFB is over, we’re going to have a separation then a purchase of the upper group and it’ll be turned into another pro league.

Why? I'm just playing devil's advocate here, not directly attacking you btw.

LSU athletics has to source the capital to be able to sustain the program at a high level. There's only so many times they can go to the donor trough. Looks like LSU is trying to be on the forefront of these opportunities to be able to generate enough revenue to be competitive across the athletic landscape. PE might be a suitable avenue. Those concerts in tiger stadium were a great way to inject capital into the program.

Just my opinion.

ETA: Private equity into LSU probably won't operate like your company being bought and sliced up for profit. Idk though

At some point... the only thing worth taking part in will be tailgating on campus.

They'll come for that too.

I saw an investment proposal 2 weeks ago looking to raise $100M.private equity would get 9.5% stake in the athletic dept.

Local Baton Rouge media outlet RedEye has a pretty big scoop (based on anonymous sources) that LSU Athletics has already closed a deal with private equity. This is what the big LSU meeting at the governor's mansion this week is reportedly about.

Is that considered “an alternate revenue generating opportunity that is first of its kind and could quite possibly change the future of college sports”?

It was only a matter of time once they asked Holden Spaht to help pay the buyout of BK. His firm has about $172b in assets.

Because their goal will be to maximize short term profits at the expense of everything else. It will start with support staff and go from there. They will not care about the brand, fan experience, or even on the field results if it increases profits.

It's incredibly foolish to do this if it ends up being true.

Why would you even be a fan of the team if that happens? Given how private equity would exploit the consumers of LSU football, this would effectively be the university president/board of supervisors/athletic department collectively deciding to give the middle finger to all alumni/fans

Selling out something that effectively belongs to/has been financed by the people of the state for generations in order to pay multimillion dollar salaries to a bunch of teenage mercenaries who couldn't give a flying frick if the program burns to the ground once their 5 years are up is wrong on every possible level
